Meet Lauren Lawless of Flawless Cuisine

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lauren Lawless.

Lauren, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I actually started off doing sales from an early age. I have sold everything from cars, dogs, technology, love and debt relief. It wasn’t till my late 20’s that my true passion for food really evolved. I have loved cooking shows and being in the kitchen sense I can remember. I grew up around food and in the kitchen where the action always was. I remember watching Two Fat Ladies, Iron Chef and Julia Child, among many other cooking shows with my mother. I remember how food always brought people together and made me happy. I always saw myself being on one of those shows someday because of my competitive nature and love for cooking. One day at work, I happened to walk into my break room and see a casting for Masterchef Season 8 in San Diego. It was a sign! I knew this was my opportunity to show the world what I could do. Unfortunately, my job wasn’t as thrilled as I was and they wouldn’t let me take the required time off to try out. Without hesitation, I quit my job and went after my dream. Thankfully I had the support from my family and friends and knew with them behind me I could do it. I ended up making top 40 out of 34,000 contestants. To me, that was huge and a great stepping stone for what was to come. After doing Masterchef and meeting some of my idols such as Gordon Ramsay and Aaron Sanchez, I knew this was my calling. From there, I became a private chef and opened my catering company Flawless Cuisine. I have been blessed to have cooked for a handful of celebrities and athletes. I have also been featured in multiple magazines, newspapers, radio stations and even other television shows such as Travel Channel, Tonight in San Diego and recently just won Supermarket Stakeout on Food Network. I’m truly glad I made the decision to leave my job that day because I probably wouldn’t be where I am today. Sometimes in life we have to takes risks and make sacrifices to find happiness. I haven’t looked back since and wouldn’t trade what I do for the world. My motto and goal in life is to inspire the world through my food one plate at time and that’s what I plan to do!

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Being a woman in a male-dominated industry has definitely made it much harder to gain the respect I deserve. People sometimes look at my appearance and think one thing but what they don’t know is that I never back down or stop fighting. After years of hard work, blood, sweat and tears, I can finally say I’m where I want to be in my career. Things are only going to get better from here and no matter what people think of me I know I am a badass in the kitchen and know what I’m capable of. The question is do they know?!

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Flawless Cuisine – what should we know?
I am a tv personality, full-time private chef and the owner of a well known/high-end catering company called Flawless Cuisine. I cater everything from birthday parties to corporate events, private cooking classes, weddings and everything else in between. I specialize in Asian Cuisine but would say my style is global. I focus mostly on American Fusion, Chinese, Japanese, Italian, French and Mexican inspired flavors. What sets me apart from others is my passion, creativity, personality and desire to learn new things. I try to incorporate different flavors and cultures from all around the world while making innovative and unique dishes. Sometimes bringing two completely different worlds together can create the most beautiful experiences!

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
The most important quality a person can have is integrity. Knowing who you are and standing for what you believe in. It is very important to respect yourself otherwise, no one will respect you. Always saying what you mean and following through on your word. Without integrity, you can not be successful no matter what career you may be in. Never backing down and never taking no for an answer. Remember, there is always someone willing to say yes! That’s having INTEGRITY!
