Today we’d like to introduce you to Laurie Hagstrom.
Laurie, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
In 2007, I decided to buy a spray tan machine because I was tired of being in the sun and damaging my skin. With a couple skin cancer scares I decided this was the safest and best way to be tan. Little did I know how popular it would be so I decided to start a business and CHEAT THE BEACH was born. We provide custom spray tans with a proprietary blended solution at the salon or in the comfort of your own home or office, we are fully mobile.
BIKINIS-N-MARTINIS is our “party” division where a group of girls get together and have cocktails and we show up and tan them. It’s really fun and a great way to get friends together. CHEAT THE BEACH is also a leader in the bodybuilding and fitness industry. Traveling to LA, Vegas and also San Diego we provide full package tanning for men and women competing in fitness shows. With an extremely impressive track record, CHEAT THE BEACH is known as one of the best in the industry.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I’ve had a lot of struggles along the way as I taught myself how to do this. Nobody showed me. I learned what works, what doesn’t work and had a lot of competition trying to edge me out of the business. I kept on and I survived and I can proudly say I am one of the best at what I do. It’s taken a lot of years and a lot of practice. There is definitely a skill and an art to this.
Tanning over 50 people in a day for a fitness show takes stamina and speed with no mistakes. I’m a perfectionist and proud of it!
Cheat The Beach – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Along with doing every day regular tans, I have become very popular in the fitness industry and known for the best color on stage. I work really hard with that part of the business. I have about 20 shows per year and we provide the tan, glazing at the show and touchups. It’s a two-day process, a lot of work but also fun.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
Proving everyone wrong that I couldn’t make it in this business. Those moments happen all the time!
