Meet LeaAnn Hartman of Let’s Face It in Ocean Beach

Today we’d like to introduce you to LeaAnn Hartman.

Thanks for sharing your story with us LeaAnn. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Since my teens, I have been interested in skin care. But It wasn’t until after my children were out of high school that I would actually have the opportunity to focus on a career for myself. I’m pretty sure I was the oldest person in my class! But it was a wonderful decision and I have never looked back.

My first two years I was at Mariposa Skin Care. Building my clientele, and extending my education, then we got the opportunity to go to the beautiful little tropical island of Okinawa, Japan for two years for my husband’s work with the military. There was definitely a niche there for my services! By the time we left, I had a two-week waiting list, and an on-deck list for last minute cancelations. Work wise, it was very validating.

Getting my business running again when we came back to San Diego was much easier the second time. Thankfully, my clients came back. Then, we got the chance to do another 2 years in Okinawa. Cutting my burgeoning business off at the knees again was one of the cons when it came to making the decision to go again. But how do you say no to an opportunity to live overseas?

I had contacts from our previous stint, and my business took off immediately. Again, another absolutely validating working experience.

Luckily, when we returned home, my same space was available, and again my clients have returned. My business has continued to grow, mostly through word of mouth.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Mostly smooth. Navigating through starting a business on a Military base overseas was a lesson in patience and making copies of EVERYTHING. And When I was just starting I had those moments of “am I going to make my rent?!”

We’d love to hear more about your business.
I am proud that I give a 100% to all my clients, whom I absolutely love. I am known for being an ingredient nerd, and a label reader. I love the science the chemistry, and the physiology of skin care. And I love making my clients feel beautiful and relaxed. It is all about them. When they leave me, they are smiling and glowing.

What were you like growing up?
We moved around a lot as a kid. So, I always had my nose stuck in a book. But we were a very athletic family, sports, swimming, hiking. Also, I have always been artistic. I studied art in high school, and college.
