Meet Leighanna Kennett

Today we’d like to introduce you to Leighanna Kennett.

Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
I am a Professional Dancer/Choreographer/Print Model based in Los Angeles, CA. I have had a love of dance and performing ever since I was little. Originally from Canastota, NY I studied dance at the age of 2 & 1/2 all the way into college, getting my BFA in Dance with Honors, from The University of The Arts in Philadelphia. After graduating college, I made the move to Los Angeles, CA and have been signed by Go 2 Talent Agency and actively working in the entertainment and performing arts industry.

As a performing artist I have had the opportunities to perform on shows and for artists like The Ellen Degeneres Show, So You Think You Can Dance Vegas Week Finalist, Freeform’s The Twins, The Mindy Project, Stalker, A Boogie With The Hoodie, DJ Mustard, Sarah Silverman, Caught A Ghost, Brooke Fraser, Amber Rose, Kosha Dillz & Flynt Flossy, Go-Pro with Topanga Band, Dear White People, Arsenic Magazine, LA Philharmonic, Yahoo! and many more. On the Choreography and teaching side, I am currently on faculty at one of the top industry dance studios, IDA Hollywood and on faculty for Wind Up Dance Tour Convention. My goal for life is to inspire more artists to go after their dreams and to create more. The world could always use more art and the support of other artists.

Please tell us about your art.
I am a Performing Artist, who happens to wear many hats. I love that about being a dancer/choreographer. I love performing and have been fortunate to dance professionally in commercials, music videos and tv shows. It’s an amazing gift to be able to do what you love and to inspire future generations of aspiring artists. Then there is choreography…I get to project my idea into a physical form. Anytime I am choreographing or putting on show/filming, I know the costumes I need, lighting, camera angles, music, story line etc. It’s never just “here’s some dance steps”, boom. It’s multiple creative sections.

I love it. This hat of director brings me to my dance company Impavid. (that I like to say is “under construction”) because It’s not my primary focus at the moment. However, I am building it step by step and we have been selected to perform at prestigious choreography showcases in Los Angeles, CA… including Carnival, Jete and RAW: natural born artists. Impavid. defines as “Fearless” and that is exactly the theme of my dance company. I’m really excited for the future and upcoming opportunities for this dance company.

As an artist, how do you define success and what quality or characteristic do you feel is essential to success as an artist?
Success lies within one’s perception of the word. To me success is waking up every day loving what I do, the opportunities that come to me from my passion and the amazing people I get to meet and work with that come into my life because of it. The best alarm clock is the need to get up to continually move farther with your goals in your craft. You have to get up and really fight for what you want. Take the time to focus, write it out, speak it to existence and you can never go wrong because at the end of the day you have two options, going through the motions and wondering what if, or choosing to chase the dream you have and keep going for it. I’ve just always been that person that doesn’t see the point in living my life at 50 percent. What’s the point? Go for it. Make it happen.

How or where can people see your work? How can people support your work?
As a performer/artist, I usually announce when I have shown, music videos, TV appearances via my social media. (@leighannakennett ) Same with my dance company Impavid. @ImpavidDanceCo)
