Meet Leila Offner of Precious Petcare in Downtown and Little Italy

Today we’d like to introduce you to Leila Offner.

Leila, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I started pet sitting for fun in 2014 after I left my restaurant management position. I was in the Hospitality business for about ten years and got burnt out. I was seeking a different opportunity when I saw an ad on Craigslist saying do you like pets and want to make some money taking care of them. I’ve always loved animals and growing up my Dad use to train Labrador Retriever puppies to become service dogs so I grew up with dogs my whole life. After I signed up to become a sitter on Rover I’ve noticed that a lot of my clients would keep coming back and got a lot of repeats. They were always so happy with my service and very appreciative. Always thanking me and the feeling of how I helped them and eased their minds leaving their precious fur babies made me feel really good. That’s when I said I’m going to turn it into a business. In the summer of 2015, I found Precious Petcare and made it a full time business. I’m so grateful for my client’s they have stuck with me from the beginning and to this day many are still my clients regardless of how much more I charge now. I also have a team of seven professional pet sitters who are all amazing and my clients feel very safe leaving their pets and home with us.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It has been a pretty smooth road I would say. The only challenging part is the consistency. The pet sitting business is very seasonal. The holiday season is big for us since everyone goes out of town and also summer when people go on vacations but there are the months where it is scaringly slow. I would freak out when I didn’t get that much business in a month but I would use that time to network or work on my marketing. I just have to give myself a pep talk and say everything will be fine and it will pick up the next month and It always does!

Tell us more about the business.
Precious Petcare is a pet sitting business. We offer dog walking, pet sitting, doggie field day, drop in visits and overnight care all at the comfort of their home. Pets are very sensitive to their surroundings and can be emotional. I see a lot of pets with separation anxiety and to release stress for them and the owner’s I thought it was best to leave them at their home where they’ll be most comfortable in rather than the owner’s having to take them to a kennel or pet hotel where they are in an unfamiliar environment. We are unique in a way because we come to you and so we are pet sitter’s on the go! I can proudly say that Precious Petcare is the best pet sitting business in San Diego. All our clients love us and we get mostly all of our clients from referrals. We have the best pet sitters as well who are complete animal lovers and will treat other’s pets just as their own. We are very professional, reliable, responsible, very communicative but best of all we give so much love to the pets. If I didn’t have to worry about bills I would do it for free that’s how much I love pets!

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
The best luck is living in San Diego where it is such a pet friendly City. Now restaurants have dog friendly patios and menus. You see people walking their dogs EVERYWHERE in the mall, restaurants, events…etc. People love bringing their dogs to places and I feel like I see more dogs than babies now! I’m so blessed to be living in a city where I can pursue my passion and make it a business!
