Meet Levi Giafaglione

Today we’d like to introduce you to Levi Giafaglione.

Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
I had always had great respect and admiration for Sign Spinners. I was trained in many types of Dance and Colorguard. Unfortunately, due to a lack of support for my LGBT lifestyle, I ended up homeless for the larger part of 6 years.

Helping the homeless involves so much more than putting a roof over someone’s head. I had to teach myself that I was worthy again, and I KNEW nobody could do that except me. So I looked for a better job, with happiness in mind.

I had no experience Sign Spinning, but I knew that I was going to do my best. And by the end of the day, I had provided the business with so much foot traffic, that they had to keep me.

Since then, I have mastered many of my tricks, and I love teaching other people the same. I love the idea of being able to teach anyone,

Please tell us about your art.
Many local businesses face a big foot traffic problem. There are so many great businesses that can blend into the facade of San Diego. Some cities even have bans on business owners, placing signs out in front of their stores. This is the part where my team gets to come in and be a part of the solution.

When you contract Lion Marketing, you aren’t just getting a guy holding a sign. We don’t just advertise for the business. We create a bond between the local community and the business, essentially by being a spirited mascot. We get that attention that the brand wants via dancing, smiling, and spinning. I love coming back to work after a few days off and hearing someone yell out to me from a car, “Where were you?” or “We missed you!”

My inspiration is always to do better than the day before. I have built a reputation where people expect to see me moving. I love being a local fixture and making people smile. It gives me a chance to share my story of hope, and pass on my knowledge to others.

One thing I want the readers to know is that if you see me…HONK! I love it. Showing support to anyone anywhere will make them a better person. And if you haven’t seen me yet, you can follow on Instagram to see where I will be next.

Choosing a creative or artistic path comes with many financial challenges. Any advice for those struggling to focus on their artwork due to financial concerns?
Sign Spinning is one of the few hourly paid artforms. Getting consistently scheduled is the hard part. I would recommend Sign Spinning to any other physical performers who need to make ends meet. It will give you the freedom to still focus on your passion project, without feeling like you’re supplementing your income with a regular job.

How or where can people see your work? How can people support your work?

Sharing videos that inspire you can also inspire someone else, and that is what I’m trying to do.

I am usually in Hillcrest or posted up by the Fashion Valley Mall, but it changes. No matter where you see me smash that horn, and I’ll do a special trick for you.
