Meet Lindsay Wilson, MS, LMFT, Co-Owner of Cultivate: A Counseling Collective

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lindsay Wilson, MS, LMFT (#85744) Co-Owner of Cultivate: A Counseling Collective.

Lindsay, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
It all started with three colleagues (Bethany Noble-Lindsay, Ingvild Denison, Lindsay Wilson) dreaming up a practice that could provide a warm, inspiring, and holistic counseling experience in San Diego. As we continued to spend time together dreaming up this practice we would start someday, it seemed as if the ball started rolling right from under us. Next thing we knew, we were looking at places and just a month later we were at Wilson Creek toasting with Champagne to the new lease we had signed. We broke ground on Cultivate the next day. A month later, we opened our doors. If there is one thing that the three of us co-owners have in common it is a love for hospitality. As we poured over exactly what we wanted Cultivate to be, we kept coming back to the mission of providing a hospitable space for our clients to grow and flourish, we wanted a “warm and inspiring path to wholeness” for each and every person that walked in our doors. We aspire to incorporate this mission in each therapist we have on staff to the feel and comfort of the living room and our offices. This mission impacts every decision we make for our practice and I am so happy to say, with the help of our therapists on staff, Cultivate is more than we ever could have dreamed of. We could not be more proud to call it our therapy home.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Bethany, Ingvild and I affectionately would say to each other during the business development and building stage of our business, “because everything is hard”. We would say this phrase to each other tongue and cheek most times but we certainly had our share of challenges learning the ropes of developing and running a business. All along the way the way we are just so grateful that the 3 of us have each other and that we each bring a different set of skills and strengths to the table.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Cultivate: A Counseling Collective story. Tell us more about the business.
Cultivate is a group practice, located in University Heights, that provides therapy/counseling to those in the San Diego Area. At Cultivate, we understand that there are inevitable seasons in each and every one of our lives when we are left feeling out of touch with ourselves, needing additional emotional support, struggling to connect and thrive in our relationships and families, or weighed down by anxiety, depression, trauma or addiction.

Our therapists provide Individual, Couples, Premarital, Child, Adolescent, LGBT+ and Family therapy. Each therapist at Cultivate (10 of us in total) offer a different and unique set of specialities including but certainly not limited to therapeutic modalities such as EMDR, Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy, Object-Relations and treating a range of needs including Body Image, Grief, Family of Origin, Anxiety, Depression and Trauma just to name a few.

We are so proud of the way we offer a place that our clients can bring their deepest pains and trials and be met with dignity, respect, unconditional positive regard and a safe place to process and grow. Most therapy offices tend to be quite sterile and clinical – At Cultivate we strive to provide a much more comfortable environment. Once as one of our clients was entering the office for the first time, his child took a deep sigh of relief and said: “Oh Daddy, this doesn’t look like a doctor’s office, it looks like a home.”

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
The journey to establish Cultivate was no easy one. We are very proud of our business and the work we have been able to accomplish here in our offices. The business you see today has come from hard work, dedication, and intentionality. We are incredibly grateful to everyone who has encouraged us, provided for us, and helped build us up to the establishment we are today.

We don’t take the opportunities we have been given for granted. We are just very grateful.
