Meet Lita Davis of Lita’s Natural Insect Repellent

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lita Davis.

Lita, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I was lucky to go to the Caribbean (Roatan, Honduras) to go SCUBA diving. What I did not know was the island of Roatan has sand flies, a LOT of sand flies (also known as no-see-ums). I was bit a lot and found I was also allergic to the bites. Dang!

Over the years I tried everything to prevent the bites. Even if I reduced the number of bites, allergic reactions would still occur and then I was living on Benadryl (24/7) to stop the itch.

I was introduced to essential oils and after doing a lot of experimenting, I finally came up with a blend that now prevents the bites and does not stain my clothes. I later discovered the blend I use also treats insect bites by stopping the itch. So my product is dual purpose, prevents and treats insect bites.

Friends and other vacationers urged me to start marketing my product because of how well it works. I now sell it online and have it in stores in San Diego, throughout the USA, South Pacific and the Caribbean,

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Initially starting a business is very taxing. There are a lot of tasks, you are wearing many hats, and are trying various ways to get the word out about your product. I am very sympathetic to my customer needs. I was, and still, do, cold calls to businesses, and promote at trade shows, community markets, etc.

I originally called my business No-See-Um No More and when I kept overhearing people say, “I don’t have a problem with no-see-ums” and walk away, I knew I had to create a new name. So I now have my business as No-See-Um No More, Inc. dba/Lita’s Natural Insect Repellent. This solved the problem!

I have been in business now for 4 years and people are calling me because they have heard about my product. The businesses that purchased my product remain customers to this day – what a wonderful compliment.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Lita’s Natural Insect Repellent story. Tell us more about the business.
I specialize in providing a natural product to prevent and treat insect bites. My purpose is to help people, and if they cannot use my product (let’s say for an allergy). I give them advice on how to find a product that may help them.

I am also proud that my product is not diluted with water. Look at the ingredients of natural insect repellents, the active ingredients need to be diluted for consumer safety and I chose to use a carrier oil rather than dilute it with water. The benefit is the consumer is purchasing 100% oils and the carrier oil provides therapeutic benefits.

Also, all of my bottles are refillable. This was important to me so my product is not going into the landfill and to save consumers money. I tell them if you like the product, save the bottles and purchase the Refill Bottle for great cost savings.

My product works in preventing bites from many insects and has been proven effective worldwide.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
My timing was just before society was looking for natural alternatives to insect repellents. The beauty is I am one of many who works with essential oils. However, mine is specialized in a natural insect repellent and natural itch relief from insect bites.

I am one of very few that offer a dual purpose product – insect repellent & itch relief from insect bites. It is very common to have to purchase one of each. Now you can purchase one product that does both.
