Meet Lorna Riley of Chart Learning Solutions

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lorna Riley.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I’ve been an international professional speaker and trainer, presenting keynotes, training sessions, and workshops for corporate events, employee development, and business entrepreneurs for over 30 years. After a request in 2008 to train 4,000 employees in Customer Service, Sales, and Leadership skills, I was advised, “You’re just going to have to put your stuff on-line.” I said “OK.” I took a year to answer the question, “Why doesn’t training work?” I wanted to find the best of learning technology combined with human interaction to build learning accountability and sustainable results. I then created an on-line learning platform that goes far beyond the typical Learning Management System called the Training Accountability Platform (TAP), and a blended learning methodology, The Performance Assurance System (PAS) that builds lasting results and bottom-line results for our customers.

Since then, I’ve created over 300 online courses in Customer Service, Sales, Leadership Development, Team Building, and On-boarding in a blended learning format. I took a year to develop the TAP and eight years to write and produce the content while still presenting to groups. During that time, Peter Horwing who was VP of Global Sales at ReadSoft (Sweden) had hired me to be the closing speaker for his international sales group in Malaga Spain. We stayed in touch and he is now co-owner of Chart Learning Solutions. We are now a global company and have expanded our courses into digital marketing certifications and have formed Chart Healthcare Academy to train allied health professionals with our courses in preparation for their professional certifications and continuing educations.

Has it been a smooth road?
Technology changes very rapidly so being in the EdTech space presents a challenge to stay current. We’ve taken a safe road approach, meaning that we have several income streams and offer training that produces award-winning results.

It’s been a tremendous help to have Peter based in Sweden with easy access to Europe, Great Britain, and South Africa as we’re a global company. It’s always a challenge working with other cultures, but with Peter’s experience as a VP of Global Sales and speaking many languages, he has made it look effortless.

Struggles are in offering a break-through training methodology that’s somewhat disruptive of traditional models. Those who have taken advantage of our approach have reaped the benefits, but the sales cycle is typically longer to get the key people involved as coaches. Our blended learning approach requires “face time” with a live coach to guarantee transfer of learning, high levels of interaction between learners in Learning Communities, and capturing best practices.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
We are known for being an award-winning blended learning company. Our courses are offered on-line as pre or post work, then combined with live coaching for interactive practice and application. Our training specializes in Sales, Customer Service, Leadership Development, Team Building and general employee development.

We have many companies acting as GOLD Partners, reselling our content and having their own branded Training Accountability Platform as “tenants.” They enjoy not only their own on-line learning platform for their business development, but appreciate it coming with over 300 programs built into the system.

We also specialize in digital marketing courses, certified by the Digital Marketing Institute in Ireland. These courses lead to certifications, approved by the Industry Advisory Council composed of key people from Google, Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, IBM, Vodafone, Microsoft and Ogilvy.

We are very proud of the awards we’ve received for “Best Use of Blended Learning, Best Leadership Development Results, and Best Training Website.”

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
As far as I’m concerned, San Diego is the best city in the US for any company. I’ve lived in many parts of the US and traveled to most of the states for my business. There is no better place for the vast array of opportunities in every type of industry. Many professional speakers choose to live here as they too have traveled the world and believe that this is the one place they’d like to call home. It has it all.

Traffic is going to continue to be a problem as more housing is going up in North county where I live. We’re a virtual company so no one commutes, but that’s going to be an on-going issue.
