Meet Margarita Santa Cruz of Viva Brazil in Pacific Beach and Gaslamp

Today we’d like to introduce you to Margarita Santa Cruz.

Margarita, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Viva Brazil started in 2008 when I decided to relocate from Atlanta and moved back to California. At this time, we were the first salon in San Diego area using hard wax for Brazilian (men and women) and doing full body waxing. Less than a year, the salon was relocated on Garnet Avenue. Four years after in 2012, we opened our downtown San Diego location. This year our third location in University Heights- North Park will be opening inside Dam market. Viva Brazil is well known for body waxing and skin care treatments. Our employees are trained and selected on skin care and waxing.

The past three years, we focused on developed our skin care line and manufacturing and distributed our depilatory waxes. Our products are available in the United States thru professional distributors.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I got really sick in 2010, went to several medical procedures over the years, but I was still able to manage the salons expansion and trained our employees. During this time, my partner created the skin care line and the depilatory waxes so we don’t reliable on the salons. As a San Diego company, we want to stay in the area and we want to create more business as a manufacturer of skin care products and depilatory waxes. I still enjoy serving my clients but I don’t do it every day for now, but I focus more on new ventures of Viva Brazil.

Viva Brazil – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
At Viva Brazil our estheticians are specialized in Brazilian for men & women and full body waxing. In 2008, we created the “full body concept” and now every salons is using it. Our estheticians are also skin experts and provide facials and chemical peels. That is a big difference between Viva Brazil and the waxing franchises.

We do have our own skin care line: VB Skin (Very Beautiful Skin) is paraben, sulfate, and animal cruelty free. Our depilatory waxes are developed by my partner (a Ph.D. in organic chemistry with 15 years on experience in pharmaceutical industry). At Viva Brazil we use the latest depilatory waxes before they hit the market. For example this year our clients were able to get waxed with our new hybrid-hypoallergenic, low temperature stripless wax. Now this wax is available in the U.S. thru professionals retailers-distributors, in Asia, middle East, Africa and Europe. We are very well connected in the beauty industry and always steps away in products, depilatory waxes and waxing techniques.

I’m very proud that the salons are only one aspect our business, and that my partner and I, were able to use our medical and scientific background to develop new eras.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Success it all relative. As a perfectionist, I will never reach that goal. I prefer to look at milestones and goals. Coming to San Diego, and not knowing anybody and have successful waxing and skin care salons is one. Staying in business and keep developing is another one.

Created a skin care line and distributing one, is also another one. Developing, manufacturing and distributing depilatory waxes Worldwide is another milestone. Our next goal? Opening a manufacture for depilatory waxes in the United States.
