Meet Margo Prodan

Today we’d like to introduce you to Margo Prodan.

Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
I am originally from LA but I grew up in Phoenix. In 2014 I began classes in Graphic Design and got my Bachelors at Platt College of San Diego in 3D. I had always been interested in art and carried a sketchbook with me everywhere but I didn’t know if I would make a career out of it. I worked for a local print shop in La Mesa before landing a position as a Graphic Artist at a San Diego candy company.

Please tell us about your art.
Most of my artwork is in sketch and paint but I also work digitally both flat and in 3D. My passion is fantasy themes derived from classic folk and mythology like mermaids faeries and the like. I grew up on Disney and comics and I love the whimsical beauty of Studio Ghibli films so I pull a lot of inspiration from animated films. My wish is to bring joy and promote a more accepting world with every sketch, painting, model or design.

What do you think is the biggest challenge facing artists today?
Right now some of the challenges artists face are also some of our greatest resources.

Social media and streaming services are such wonderful innovations which provide us with seemingly unlimited sources of inspiration.

Unfortunately, they also serve as distractions and can be disheartening. I can’t count how many times I have come across a work of art that is so impossibly similar to something I am currently working on. I have to remind myself not to compare myself too harshly to the next artist and just strive for my own personal greatness.

How or where can people see your work? How can people support your work?
Right now I am working with my amazing creative team to make a comic book. Digital Lizards of Doom is a local band and I have been lucky enough to get in on the ground floor of this project for their story. We are pushing to have the comic released by the end of 2018.

My moniker is MermaidMargo on Instagram, Dribbble, Facebook and I have a RedBubble and a Society 6 account for purchasing merchandise. For my graphics and 3D portfolios I am on both Artstation and Behance.
