Meet Maryanne McGuire of Maryanne McGuire Photography

Today we’d like to introduce you to Maryanne McGuire.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
At the age of 14 I dreamed of being a nurse, living in California, driving a green VW Bug, and raising a dog. My dreams did come true, except for one minor detour, I changed career courses. With a camera always by my side and a life-long passion for photography, I became a professional photographer. I’m grateful to my Mother who was a big influence in this decision. With just one year left to receive the title of RN, I announced I wanted to change nursing to photography. Braced for an argument, Mom surprised me with total support, and loved that I had the courage to follow a deeper calling. I was actually following my Mother’s pioneer spirit, who was also a small business owner at a time when most women were encouraged to raise families at home.

Has it been a smooth road?
Starting any kind of business is challenging. It’s best if you love what you do, backed by discipline and diligence. In addition, basic tools needed are quality camera equipment, a good base location, professional business cards, build a social media plan and of course, you must have a strong website. Step by step, and fueled by positive word of mouth, it wasn’t long before my business took off.  It was an exciting time in the beginning, I was able to combine a passion for photography with my love for travel.  I’ve shot in Europe,  across the United States, and the West Indies, including Saint Thomas, Bahamas, Aruba, Hawaii, Victoria BC, and Puerto Vallarta. Last year I photographed a wedding in Croatia. Another dream came true when my photos were published in Wine, Dine and Travel Magazine, in an article entitled, “Photographers Holiday in Cuba.” http://www.winedineandtravel.com/. Summer/2017.

The recession hit at the same time the digital age was born, there was a big shift in the photography industry. It was also a big learning curve changing from film to digital, but very exciting. Competition increased, forcing me to stay strong and work smarter. I’m very competitive when it comes to my work. In photography, we deal with timelines, weather conditions, air temperatures, ever-changing light, and economics. You’ll have a smooth road here and there, but skilled experience is found on those winding, high mountain roads where danger lurks at every sharp bend, however, the views are rich and the ride is thrilling. I love a good challenge.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
I specialize in weddings, boudoir, family portraiture, corporate events, and fine art travel photography. Although, photographing weddings is one of my favorite services. To capture life moments with a bride and groom on their sacred day is an extraordinary responsibility and time-honored tradition. It’s festive and fun with many surprises.  Photographing families coming together in celebration of a marriage union is very precious. Especially long after the event, as time passes life changes us, whether by distance, age, or loss of loved ones. Wedding photographs can become priceless.

Boudoir photography gives me so much joy. All women are beautiful. It’s wonderful to empower them in this unique art form that is often given as a special gift or romantic keepsake. My style tends to be classic and very tasteful. A new endeavor of mine is photographing woman under water. I really love my work, it’s so fun.

Family Portraitures are personal and last forever. Love visiting my client’s homes and seeing all there cherished memories either in books or enlargements from our previous portrait sessions. Lifestyle photography is my one of my favorite forms of family portraiture. I get to spend an afternoon with my clients family and document a typical day in their lives. It’s so sweet and rewarding to capture the individual personalities and emotional unity that exists. I feel so honored to be able to capture these precious moments into images that will last forever.

Corporate Event photography is very exciting and based on a client’s specific requests, in addition to location shots, guests shots, entertainment and VIP speakers. Fine art travel photography is a privilege and incredible opportunity. Through gallery showings or magazine articles, I get to entertain, educate, and inspire others to get out and explore the world.

As a photographer, success captures the beauty, inspiration, and memorable moments in life. My goal is to make a difference in people’s lives by bringing awareness, acceptance and gratitude to the forefront. I have my own clever way of provoking emotions that brings joy. My hope is to teach innovative photographers that you can follow your dreams and succeed if you have a true passion for your art form, and a steely determination to bring it to life.

McGuire photography is located in San Diego but Maryanne loves adventure. Worldwide travel is available.
