Today we’d like to introduce you to Melisa Celikel.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Melisa. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I was born to non-entrepreneur parents who had a strict academic mindset. My brother and I were expected to get straight A’s throughout grade school and on into college. I followed the path my parents laid out- perfect attendance in high school and a Bachelor’s in Sociology from CSU San Marcos, Magna Cum Laude. I dove straight into a career in Human Resources after college and worked my way up the career ladder to a coveted six-figure role at a Fortune 200 Company.
In the meantime, I have always loved organizing- I bought my first book on organization at just ten years old! I was also a very tidy child- you’d never see a messy Melisa! I started reading business and personal development books in my free time while continuing to work in HR. After ten years in this industry, I had what I call, an “epiphany.” Within one month, I had resigned from my corporate position and launched into full-time entrepreneurship. I launched Let’s Get You Organized, named myself the CEO, and never looked back!
Within six months, I’d formed an LLC, made my first hire, built an amazing network for myself, and had professional organizing clients booked out for two months. If you had told me in college that I’d be driving around San Diego in a Let’s Get You Organized t-shirt with my little car magnet, helping clients clear out their junk, I’d have thought you were nuts! It’s been a journey and I am SO happy to own my company!
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
The biggest struggle for me has been allowing myself to have FUN! Yes, you heard that correctly. Coming off of a 10-year corporate career, I had to shake off the stories I had been telling myself for so long. I hired a business coach, a therapist, and surrounded myself with like-minded small-business owners in order to be able to feel like entrepreneurship was my new way of life. Mindset matters- I practice manifestation and affirmation exercises every single day to help me as I navigate this wild ride.

Let’s Get You Organized operates on the three core values of Respect, Collaboration, and Active Listening to help scattered shopaholics develop positive habits, take action, and make realistic choices in implementing their home organization systems. I am known for giving my clients non-sugar-coated coaching when it comes to clearing their clutter. I give my clients the pushes they need to live a more minimalist life.
I’m most proud of the lives I change by implementing systems to maintain home organization and reduce cluttered chaos! My no-nonsense mentality serves my clients well. Of course we play music, make jokes, laugh, and try to have as much fun as possible along the way- but if my clients start “living in the someday and what-ifs”, as I like to call it, they get a swift kick in the pants to launch them back into the decluttering mindset.
What were you like growing up?
I grew up in Rancho Bernardo- San Diego born and raised and proud of it! When asked what I wanted to be when I grew up, I always said I wanted to be a maid. My brother remembers me alphabetizing the magazines in his dentist’s office at age 6. It’s literally my DREAM to organize junk!
I was a bossy, type A child with an immense amount of responsibility and drive. I received straight A’s and perfect attendance all throughout school, started working as soon as I could get my hands on a work permit at age 15 and won a scholarship to move to San Francisco and attend the Academy of Art University by myself at age 16.
