Today we’d like to introduce you to Melissa Diliberti.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Melissa. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
When Sacred Solutions was created, it did not feel like making something new. This project was unraveled out of items already in me. This is what I do, what I love, and who I am. My entire life I have always confided in a creative outlet, although I have never experienced anything more natural than creating this art.
I create when inspiration strikes, and when it does not. This work is my formula, my solution to all, and is extremely sacred to my heart. This art does not have rules. It does not make sense. It just breathes, it just is.
I am 21 years old and live in North Park, a creative little neighborhood within San Diego, CA. Although I have taken numerous art classes my entire life, I taught myself about acrylic pour painting and abstract art. By teaching myself, I mean coming home exhausted from a day of work and letting myself go wild on a blank canvas to relieve stress- and it worked! Painting is the one thing I know I can always count on to completely shut my mind down and let me relax. Like most of us, I struggle daily with anxiety regarding the numerous events that life can throw at you. Once I started to realize my anxiety was unavoidable, I created my own medicine with art.
Sacred Solutions started as just that – a therapy tool to help me get through my days. Once I started consistently painting, I noticed such a positive turn in my moods, relationships, and work ethic during my full-time job. Painting allows me to let all that I am feeling out in order to create something beautiful from absolutely nothing. Talk about satisfying.
Every artist has a muse. One morning, I felt mentally blocked from creating. I decided to go for a run outside by the bay. Staring at the colors of water, grass, sky, clouds, rocks, sand, etc. I became completely inspired and knew then what the concept would be for my work. Using earth-toned paints and applying healing crystals to the pieces, Sacred Solutions reflects the beautiful world we are all apart of.
Within three short months of being open for business in 2018, my hobby turned into a business and exceeded sales that I never expected. One sale being from Broadstone Makers Quarter – a new luxury apartment building in East Village, SD. The excitement continued beginning the new year, closing a perfect partnership with Spa Kingston in Little Italy. Spa Kingston is a massage and facial salon that is immensely inspired by the powers of healing crystals. Sacred Solutions will be for sale in this beautiful salon starting early 2019.
Although blessings continued to come my way regarding my art business, I could not help but feel like something very important was missing. Due to my unexpected support and success, I was compelled to give back to the community.
I knew what my business needed the night of an art show in Little Italy when I met Estee Alias from Humble Design. Humble Design a 501(c)3 non-profit that serves individuals, families, and veterans emerging from homelessness by transforming their empty house into a warm, welcoming and uplifting home with donated furniture and household goods. Across the country, Humble Design warehouses are curated and stocked by design teams that personalize homes by providing a dignified, life-changing experience for clients. Estee explained to me how the artwork placed in the home creates a sense of ownership for the families. With Humble’s help, only 1% of families return to homelessness within 12 months. Right then I knew I had to jump on board, so I did. Starting in January of 2019 Sacred Solutions became 1 for 1. Each time a painting is bought or commissioned from my shop, another one is also going to a neighbor in need.
It is important to me that when I say my mantra, “art heals” I am not only referring to painting a canvas or admiring an art piece; I am talking about the art made up within yourself. The true version of YOU that shines brighter than all. There is nothing that the art of yourself cannot heal. With Sacred Solutions, I want to spread that message as far as I possibly can.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
More people than you know struggle with anxiety. So, when I say that this has been my biggest struggle, I fully acknowledge it is a very human way to feel.
At 19 years old, I moved from the comfort zone of my family’s house in Temecula, CA to the big city of San Diego. This had to of been the scariest and bravest thing I have ever done. Although, I trusted my intuition that it was what my soul needed. Trying to take care of myself in one of the most expensive places in the world stressed me out, to say the least! I did not want to fail and I let that fear of failing fog my vision for both happiness and success. Some mornings, I could not even get out of bed because my hands and feet were shaking so bad. I unfortunately created my biggest obstacle which was overcoming the anxiety and fear of falling on my face. For those of you who create – you know that it is nearly impossible to do so when you feel this way.
I took almost two years off from art. It was not until after being in San Diego for a year that I felt comfortable enough with myself to create. I started meeting the right friends and enhancing the relationships that I already had. I moved into the cutest apartment in North Park with my absolute best friend. I felt at home both physically and mentally. I was finally able to confidently make art again and unintentionally started a business from posting my finished artworks on Instagram. That is when Sacred Solutions was born. I consider this art to be my solution to the challenges I was experiencing with anxiety and self-doubt. Hearing the kind praises and sale offers from my pieces gave me such pride and fulfillment. I knew I had found my purpose, I woke up.
For anyone trying to figure things out, if you find yourself subconsciously creating your own barriers out of unreal fear; the most important thing that I’ve learned is that life is just one big trial and error. You literally need to physically move around. TRY new things, TALK to new people and ASK for what’s going to fill you up. Move to that new city, talk to that stranger, apply for that job that you think you’re under-qualified for, start that business, and have fun while you’re doing it! Life is not supposed to stay stagnate. The worst that can happen is sometimes the BEST that can happen. I am no longer afraid to make mistakes; I now love to embrace them. How else will you grow?
Sacred Solutions – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Sacred Solutions is an online art shop created and managed by Melissa Diliberti which specializes in abstract acrylic paintings, inspired by healing crystals. Our message, “art heals” comes from our concept that art is a form of therapy. By incorporating crystals on our pieces, we embrace all the powerful properties that come from the different stones; encouraging our buyers to apply these concepts to their own lives. Sacred Solutions offers finished works, custom commissioned pieces, painting refurbishment, and pop-up art displays for business happy hour events.
One thing that differentiates my business from others is the dedication to give back to the community. Sacred Solutions is a 1 for 1 shop. Each time a painting is purchased, another painting is donated to a recently homeless individual in San Diego through my partnership with Humble Design. Sacred Solutions is extremely thankful for the partnership/friendship with Humble Design. Thanks to their non-profit, I am able to give back to the beautiful San Diego community that helped build my dream business.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
The proudest moment of my art career will always be the day that I started.
It is extremely easy to fall into an accidental daily routine that has nothing to do with your true self. I felt this happening to me more and more as the days passed and I was not making any art at all. I felt so empty, confused, and uncomfortable with who I was.
Creating these paintings, making this art, expressing who I am and what I see through paint on canvas lets me feel at home with my true self. I know that in the moment of creating a piece of art, I am doing exactly what I am meant to do. So for once, my mind is silent, letting myself just be.
I am so proud of myself for not giving up on my dreams. Regardless of not going to a fancy art college, regardless of working 40+ hours a week at my day job, regardless of continuously putting myself outside my comfort zone; my passion allows me to thrive.
I am beyond proud, and beyond thankful.
