Meet Melissa Lone of On Point Acupuncture and Wellness Center , Inc. in San Carlos

Today we’d like to introduce you to Melissa Lone.

Melissa, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I am a Licensed Acupuncturist as well as the Founder and Owner Of On Point Acupuncture and wellness center, Inc. My Background is that of a Broadway Singer, Dancer, Actor from New York City. I was first introduced to Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine when I was rehearsing to open in ” A Chorus Line” on Broadway when my hip seized up on me. I was referred to an Acupuncturist and not only did I find relief, but I experienced more range of motion than I had felt in ten years. After that, I was bit obsessed and wanted to learn what else Acupuncture could do for meI continued to use Acupuncture and found it helpful for regulating my cycle, treating dysmenorrhea ( painful menses) as well as infertility.

My passion for Chinese Medicine runs so deep, that I left a Broadway show in New York to pursue it. For me, Chinese medicine is a way of life, not just a medicine. It balances and aligns the person not only within themselves but with nature and their lives.

I started my company On Point Acupuncture and Wellness Center, Inc. renting a single room from a nearby chiropractor. After two years, one room was not enough. Not only because I wanted to help more people but my vision for health and wellness was larger. As a dancer, I never missed a show for injury, because I utilized a team of health and wellness experts from so many different places; acupuncturists, massage therapists, physical therapists, psychotherapists, nutritionists, yoga instructors, meditation teachers. etc. to keep me “on point “, physically, emotionally and spiritually and that is what I wanted to offer the community under one roof. So, when another space in the same building opened up, I jumped on it. Now our center has four treatment rooms, a small space for yoga/classes/ workshops and ah herbal pharmacy.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It has not been a smooth road. First of all, I did not have a background in business, so many mistakes were made along the way. Not only that, but I am a mom of two children under the age of seven with a firefighter husband, whose schedule was very hard to workaround. Learning to balance and prioritize is a daily challenge. However, I just took one step at a time and solved each problem as it presented as well as recalibrated when necessary in regards to family and work balance. Most importantly, surrounding myself with a gifted, honest and beautiful team is imperative to success! Gratitude is key!

We’d love to hear more about your practice.
On Point is an Integrative Family Wellness Center that treats babies, children, men and women. We provide Acupuncture, Massage, yoga as well as meditation workshops, hypnotherapy and energy work. We specialize in building the family and supporting the family through all of life’s transitions.

All of our practitioners specialize in pain relief and orthopedics, however, in addition to that, I am a fellow of the American Board Of Oriental Reproductive Medicine ( ABORM) and specialize in fertility, our other practitioners specialize in mental health, pediatrics, as well as men and women’s health.

We not only address getting people out of pain at On Point, but we address the underlying root causes whether physically or emotionally and strive to get you ” on Point ” in all aspects of life. What we do not have in the house to help, we have an amazingly skilled and talented circuit of professionals that we collaborate with to get you well and keep you well.

My mission is to change how we approach healthcare from birth, where the patient is empowered to recognize imbalance within themselves early and give them the tools to address it. The end result; to decrease the rate of chronic, long term disease.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
I define success through my patients. I watch them not only get out of a crisis but once out of pain and discomfort, make huge life changes that free them to flourish. I see the weight loss occur, the careers change, the families grow as they live in alignment. As our On Point community grows, I recognize our success.
