Meet Jess Marie Larrain of the Meraki Method in Carlsbad

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jess Marie Larrain.

My path started with studying music business, with the intention of composing film scores. Music will always be an important passion of mine, but I wanted to work towards a career where I could provide service to others. So, I dove deeper into my yoga practice, becoming a certified yoga asana instructor and health coach. What a turn around right?

I then worked as a yoga studio manager for 2 years, which provided so much opportunity for web design, marketing, and community management. I started to branch out my services to my community, providing assistance with web, social marketing, and organizational development.

Because of the incredible growth, I was lead to becoming an independent contractor, freelancing and being of service to even more people on my own time.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It didn’t start out that way but has become a smooth road with drive and determination. The struggles that I’ve faced along the way are ageism and financial hardship.

I’m an old soul, but I have a young face. The way someone looks shouldn’t have any effect on another’s decision to work with them. I’m a quick learner, hard worker, and great communicator. My experience and work ethic has nothing to do with how many years I’ve been living.

As for financial hardship, it was difficult during the first few months being an official independent. Saving for taxes, having to gain more streams of income to pay the bills, budgeting very precisely. But then you get over that chapter once you find your groove. I’m very grateful for the struggle in the beginning because it’s so worth it to be able to work for myself, having the flexibility to really live.

The meraki method – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I’m developing the meraki method, a platform created to provide everything I have to offer. All of my experience has helped me develop the skills I value most: efficient work ethic, active listening, and organization. The philosophy behind this new platform is based on a modern Greek meaning to weave a piece of your soul into your work, which inspired the title — the Meraki method.

Meraki (mār-ă-kī) — doing things with soul, creativity or love; when you put “something of yourself” into your work, whatever it may be.

I provide consulting and digital services for small businesses and entrepreneurs which include branding, web development, social marketing, organization, and support. I also provide services in yoga as an RYT 200, specializing in Vinyasa Flow and Yoga for Trauma. I’ll soon be offering Y12SR – Yoga for 12-Step Recovery, Transcending Sexual Trauma Through Yoga, Yoga for Codependency, and Qigong.

I love what I do. Because of that, the definition of “meraki” appropriately represents my method of providing service to others. the meraki method is my umbrella for anything & everything I have to offer. I see it becoming so much more than what it is now.

The meraki method truly embodies who Jess is — a business consultant, instructor, and powerful, yet empathetic leader — because she pours her creativity into brands that resonate with her true self. Her values shine through the skills, service and work ethic with amazing attention to detail and organization.

What’s your favorite childhood memory?
My favorite memory from childhood would have to was the first time I watched Disney’s Fantasia. This film is what sparked my interest in film scores. I remember how immersed I was, replaying certain scenes over and over just because of how the music affected me. I was so curious to understand how and why. Ever since that day, music (specifically film composition) has become an important part of my life. It’s a part of my soul.

How do you, personally, define success?
I define success by happiness and comfortability. If I’m happy with my work, my relationships with my clients and the results that come from my work, this creates a feeling of success and achievement for me. When I’m in a comfortable state financially and have open communication with my clients, this creates a feeling of success and motivation to keep striving.
