Meet Michael and Kandice Ferraro of The Bark & Collar in Poway

Today we’d like to introduce you to Michael Ferraro and Kandice Ferraro.

Kandice has been in the grooming business since 2007. She got her start at her sister’s pet salon in New York. In 2012, she made the move out west and worked as a groomer for Petco. She had always a dream of one day owning her own salon. With the help of her brother in law, Michael Ferraro, that dream became a reality.

Michael worked in corporate sales and distribution for over 15 years. Although he had no previous knowledge in the pet industry, he jumped at the chance to be part of Kandice’s dream.

Together they developed the idea of The Bark & Collar, an open concept, low stress, fun loving environment. Michael’s customer service etiquette and business knowledge and Kandice’s grooming expertise makes for a great experience for both pet and pet parent.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Opening a small business has its struggles, however what struggles we did have seemed small and manageable. We had the support and help from our families, even our kids were involved with the build process.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about The Bark & Collar – what should we know?
We are a licensed pet grooming salon located in the heart of Poway. We believe in giving pets the proper treatment that will ensure their visits are always professional, safe and enjoyable.

We offer a new take on modern grooming with the same promise of a small neighboring business. We operate as a Full Open-View Salon equipped with the ability to care for and securely house your companions during their visit.

Our clients’ overall best interest will always come first, and everything we do will be guided by our values and professional ethics.

We are proud to be in the area we are in. The Ferraro’s have called Poway home for many years. We are blessed to be able to serve our neighbors and provide a sense of familiarity in the community.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Honesty and superior customer service. Kandice is amazing at what she does, she truly has a talent and love for it, but at the end of the day you want your customer to feel like they are part of your family. Providing honest and friendly service has played a key role to our success.
