Meet Michael McCright of Together I Can in Santee

Today we’d like to introduce you to Michael McCright.

Michael, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I was introduced to nutrition and herbs in 1972 when I joined Shaklee Corp. In 1992, I became the 1st HHP (Holistic Health Practitioner to be able to utilize Standard Process products). They were only sold through health professionals, mainly chiropractors. I later added Metagenics to the list of products I utilized in my nutritional practice. I was able to assist many people with their health, however, when it came to my focus, which was weight loss, I became discouraged. I could tell individuals exactly what they should do and when they should do it, but they never seemed to pick up the ball and run with it.

I continued with my massage practice with a minor focus on health and nutrition as a way of helping people become balanced in their lives.

In 2014, a friend introduced me to Dr. Wayne Scott Andersen, who founded TSFL, a subsidiary of Medifast. His concept of preventative health and the process he elaborated on touched me. He also gave in the answer that I didn’t have for people back in 1992. The answer was medically formulated, scientifically back, portion controlled, meal replacements.

I joined the organization as a Health Coach, became certified as a Health Coach shortly thereafter. I can say that I have absolutely no regrets.

At age 75, I will probably be forced to give up the massage practice I have had for 26 years, sometime in the near future, but I can continue helping people with their health, via Health Coaching.

Has it been a smooth road?
Changing careers is never easy. The navy taught me electronics and after 3.5 years on submarines and 3.5 years of teaching electronics at the Treasure Island Naval base, I got out and joined the workforce as an electronic technician. I worked in the electronic industry for 22 years. Starting as a technician and working my way to the upper echelon – Vice Pres. of Customer Relations.

I left the electronics field and began a venture in the advertising arena. Producing a new way to advertise with a clear divider, to be used at the grocery store checkout counter. After 4.5 years, $875,000 later, the depression hit and we went under.

So, at age 50, I underwent a 1000 hours of training to become an HHP (Holistic Health Practitioner) and started my own practice. This field has been very rewarding to me.

I should say that I seemed to have a parallel path, the entire time I was in the navy and later during my electronics career. On submarines, I became a hypnotherapist. While teaching electronics, I was picked to introduce Dr. Ken Coopers, a new program of Aerobics to the troops attending school In 1972, as part of Shaklee Corp. I submerged myself in studying herbs and nutrition. In 1992, I became an HHP. I have since become a Posture Analysis Specialist, using the Egoscue Method. I also have my DD, so I can marry, bury and do Spiritual Counseling.

The transition has been somewhat difficult because I now have to turn people away from my massage practice to make time for the coaching. Learning to let go and balance my time has been a challenge.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Together i Can story. Tell us more about the business.
My business “Together i Can” uses the philosophy that we all need others in order to have transformation change in our lives. It is about taking responsibility for everything that is happening in our lives, as opposed to “we”, which allows one to shift blame and responsibility on to others.

I am a Certified Health Coach who utilizes the full realm of the health aspect, not just physical health. I focus my coaching on the idea that life must be balanced. Physically, Mentally, and Spiritually, and we can add in Financially if we desire.

My coaching style challenges and encourages others to become the best that they can be. I teach that success is a Progressive Realization of a Worthy Ideal, as defined by Earl Nightingale. If you are progressing, staying in the game, then you are successful. Goals are important but the Journey is far more important. I teach that instant gratification is a trap that many fall for. They claim that sweets, cakes, candy, cookies are the Good Stuff, failing to realize that what they are really sacrificing are vitality and health. Delayed gratification in most areas of life, leads to fulfillment, not the miserable, depressing life that some imagine.

My Vision is: “To bring Opulence to the world by fulfilling God’s will and purpose for me.”
My Purpose is: “To allow God to channel His will through me.”
My Mission is: “To open myself to God’s will and to become more aware of where God is working so that I can join Him.”

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
Withone-thirdd of the world’s population being overweight and obese, moving steadily towards morbidly obese, the industry can be expected to expand tremendously.

As the medical establishment moves more towards a holistic approach, I envision more and more individuals seeking alternative approaches to enhance their health.

As we in the Health Coaching arena spread our wings and educate more and more people to the advantages of prevention (Pre-Hab over Re-Hab), word of mouth advertising will spread more and more rapidly.

We are in a position to be the next revolution!
