Today we’d like to introduce you to Michael Walrond.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Started from the bottom now we here! Lol man! It’s be a crazy journey, my background is in retail, visual display, and graphic design. I’m an art school dropout who worked my way up through the ranks in the creative world. I’ve worked on everything from styling, designing / installations of exhibits at places like The Grammy Museum, costume design in film, shoe and product design, and couture exhibitions. I fell into photography two years ago when a friend gifted me a Leica camera.
For those of you who don’t know, Leica is the holy grail of cameras. From there my goal was to manipulate images organically, without Photoshop or any post production. I’m still true to those values today.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
There’s always challenges along the way. How you handle them and learn determines where you want to go. I’m firm believer there’s no limitations, we are the only ones that can hold ourselves back. One of the craziest things I did was move to LA with no money, no job, or a place to stay. Thinking back on it now I can’t believe I did that. But it was the best decision I ever made. I met one of my close friends while we were both interning for a Flaunt Magazine photo shoot, we hit it off and he brought me onto projects for 8 plus years. Projects like Michael Jackson’s tribute exhibit at The Grammy Museum, Il Teatro Alla Moda by The Wallis Annenberg, and La Plaza. He is now the Creative Director for FIDM, and I’m now pursuing a career in the contemporary art world.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the SHDWSOFDUST story. Tell us more about the business.
My goal as an artist is to create original, unedited artworks. To Inspire and transport the observer.
SHDWSOFDUST is the foundation of that, it’s not just Michael Walrond, I can create and inspire through whatever means I see fit. What I’m proud of or what sets me apart, every piece of art I create is one of kind, and unique to the person who buys it.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
