Today we’d like to introduce you to Michele Drake.
Michele, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I wanted to be a veterinarian since I was 3. I have always loved animals, been fascinated by science and also really like humans! I bought my first practice when I was 27. I wanted to provide the best care and service and my passion for this led me to start my own practice.
I grew up in St. Louis Missouri but moved straight to SCal after graduation. I love San Diego! The people and the passion for outdoor living and healthy bodies makes this a great place for me and my family. My boys and I are avid mountain bikers and they are both very adept mountain climbers. It is a great way for us to spend our time together.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I would have to say that I have been pretty fortunate in achieving my goals but I worked really hard for many years when my peers may have been out having a bit more fun. I worked 6-7 days a week for many years to build my practice. I am truly passionate about always taking the care and service we provide to the next level.
I love my pets and I understand what good pet care and good service are all about.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with The Drake Center for Veterinary Care – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
The Drake Center is a very special place. It is all about the people inside the building and what they do to create the most caring environment for our clients. Everyone on our staff is dedicated to creating this special environment where people know they will be well cared for and their furry family members will get optimal care. Pet owners come to us when celebrating their new puppies and kittens and they also come to us to help them through tough health challenges for their pets.
Our practice culture is very unique. We have dedicated ourselves to being passionate about the care for both clients and their pets. We love to educate and take the time with all clients to make sure they understand their pets health care needs. We respect that the bond people have for their pets may be different and we try to accommodate everyone’s needs.
New clients are amazed at the difference of the Drake Center. I am so grateful that part of my job is playing with puppies and kittens and getting to work with the smartest, most caring and talented team of veterinary care employees.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
We are always looking for better ways to provide good service for our clients. Our website and social media are nationally recognized. Our website gets about 10 times more traffic than the average veterinary hospital. We believe that our clients want to engage and bond with us over stories and pictures about pets and veterinary medicines role in keeping them happy and healthy.
We are currently studying PRP (platelet rich plasma) therapy for the treatment of arthritic joints in dogs. This could greatly benefit aging dogs by reducing pain and inflammation in the joint.
Our seven doctors meet monthly and take turns educating each other on the latest therapies and procedures. This keeps us on the edge of the best care for our patients.
