Meet Michelle Blasen of BlazenFit in La Jolla

Today we’d like to introduce you to Michelle Blasen.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
My passion for health and fitness started 4 years ago but my story starts a few years before that.

Growing up I was a soccer player. It was my passion and at the tender age of six my goal was to play professional soccer. I dreamt of being on the Woman’s National Team and was determined at becoming the best and making that dream a reality. When college came around I started training at Santa Barbara City College but two weeks before official tryouts my knee gave out. I completely tore my ACL and Meniscus. I was supporting myself which meant no insurance, leaving me with little choice but to end my soccer career. After the incident I lost my identity and I became very depressed. I had been an athlete my entire life and everything I had worked for was to play college ball and eventually go professional. After a few years of wandering and not taking care of myself I hit rock bottom. I became homeless and completely broke at the age of 22. It was then, eating off of the $1 dollar menu at McDonalds every night that I realized I didn’t want to be like this forever. I knew deep down there was more to life and I had a purpose. I didn’t know where to start really but I did just that-I started. I began to try and took it one day at a time, step by step. I believe everything happens for a reason and all of the hardships I’ve faced and things I have had to go through built me into the person I am today. It has lead me to my life that I have now which I could have never dreamt of 8 years ago. I don’t tell my story to get sympathy and there are many others who have had it much harder than I but I tell it because I want people to know that I am not perfect and never was. I understand how hard it is to choose to start, to choose to dig yourself out, and to choose to do something more in your life.

Once I got my feet back on the ground I started to get into fitness. I was always an athlete but I trained differently, more specifically for soccer. When I got into a gym I loved how I could be competitive again but with myself. I started learning how to work out by reading and watching videos about lifting. I became addicted to the natural high I got from working out. It gives me the release I need and that along with eating the right foods has helped me with my depression. Once I started taking care of my health the rest of my life started coming together. I became a CPT through NASM then I went through Yoga Teacher Training receiving my 200 Hour RYT. After that I still felt like there was more and I wasn’t doing exactly what I wanted or was meant to do so I kept pushing and getting an education. I became Yoga Sculpt Certified and then I found the Health Coach Institute in July of 2016. After a month into the certification program everything all clicked. Becoming a Health and Lifestyle Coach was the way for me to help people the way I always wanted to. It gave me that freedom to start my business and to help people with the small attainable steps. To be there for that person giving them the accountable, the motivation, the support, and the stretch when they need it. My passion now is to help people realize that healthy doesn’t have to be hard, that you can become all you dream of with the right tools and mindset, and that you deserve everything you want physically, mentally, emotionally, and financially.

By choosing to help myself years ago has now lead me to living the life I always dreamed of. I went from sleeping in a car and on friends couches to having my own business, helping others achieve their best health and life, living in southern California, and recently have been given the opportunity to live and personal train at Equinox in Beverly Hills. I am no different from anyone else. I grew up without much in a small town in Oregon. I understand the depression, the pain, the difficulties in choosing a new life which is why I created Blazen_Fit. My passion for health, fitness, and nutrition grows every day. My drive in creating BLAZEN_FIT is really wanting to be that extra support someone may need. I love being there for someone as they are transitioning because I know how hard it is especially if you’re alone. Being able to be there for someone else is truly humbling and I am grateful for each client I get to work with.

I am here to help you realize you are unique and meant to live the life you have always dreamed. To help you realize that healthy isn’t supposed to be complicated but rather quite simple. To help you let go of your fears to become your most vibrant, sexiest, healthiest, and most fulfilled self so that you can go out into the world shining your light and living your best life.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It has not been a smooth road but it has been a rewarding one. I have learned so much about myself, business, fitness, nutrition, and life in general. I feel like my past helps me to understand a variety of different people and backgrounds. It’s helped me become more compassionate and open minded. I understand what it’s like to financially struggle, to be homeless, to feel alone, to go through bad relationships, and to feel completely lost without direction. I understand what struggling with depression and anxiety is like because I have and do struggle with it. I have studied, researched, and done many different types of workouts and diets to better understand what works best for helping to naturally help these diseases. I now see struggling as a good thing because you learn and grow from your struggles. They have made me into the person I am today and who I am going to be.
