Today we’d like to introduce you to Michelle Jacko.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Michelle. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
When Michelle first graduated from law school, she thought her career would focus on water law and toxic torts. Instead, she met a CEO of a broker-dealer and found herself on a different path of regulatory compliance. Michelle has a passion for securities law and the financial industry. Throughout her career, Michelle has provided strategic guidance to senior management teams to help them understand regulations as they navigate through evolutions within their business.
Michelle started her career at PIM Financial Services, Inc., where she served as the Compliance Officer. From there, she became Compliance Manager at Nicholas-Applegate Capital Management and among other things, managed the broker-dealer’s, wrap-fee program’s and performance advertising compliance efforts. At First American Trust, FSB, Michelle served as in-house counsel of investments and was the adviser’s Chief Compliance Officer. She then went on to LPL Financial, where Michelle was Vice President of Compliance and Branch Manager of the Home Office Supervision team.
In 2007, Michelle opened the doors of Jacko Law Group, PC (“JLG”). She is proud to serve as the law firm’s Managing Partner and CEO. In addition to running the law firm, Michelle is the CEO and strategist for a compliance consultation firm.
Ms. Jacko regularly presents at conferences throughout the nation, and is a frequent contributor to various industry journals. In 2013, Ms. Jacko was appointed to and continues to serve on the Editorial Advisory Board for the Wolters Kluwer publication Practical Compliance and Risk Management for the Securities Industry. She is a Member of the Corporations Committee of the Business Law Section of the State Bar of California, and formerly served as Vice-Chair of Education. Michelle also is a Member of the Business & Corporate Law Section of the San Diego County Bar Association, where she formerly served as Advisory Board Chair; she is Co-Founder and Member of the Southern California Compliance Group; she is a former Board Member and Member of the National Society of Compliance Professionals (NSCP); member of the American Bar Association’s Business Law Section; and is a FINRA Arbitrator. Ms. Jacko was recently recognized as a finalist for a number of awards in 2019 as well, including Women of Influence in San Diego (San Diego Metro Magazine), Most Admired CEO (San Diego Business Journal), Celebrating Women (San Diego Magazine), Top 50 Influential Business Leaders (San Diego Daily Transcript), Business Women of the Year (CEO Today) and Global Excellence Awards: Most Influential Woman in Securities Law 2019 – San Diego (Acquisition INTL Magazine) .
Ms. Jacko received her J.D. from St. Mary’s University School of Law and B.A., International Relations, from the University of San Diego. She is admitted to the State Bar of California and United States District Court, Southern District of California. Michelle holds NSCP’s Certified Securities Compliance Professional (CSCP) designation, and is a member of the National Association of Women Lawyers. She attributes her success to hard work, great mentors and industry involvement, “When you put yourself out there and speak at industry events, you are forced to raise the bar for yourself and have an opportunity to establish relationships with the best of the best in your industry.” Her husband Dennis is her rock, and has offered much support to allow her to build Jacko Law Group, PC into what it is today.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The toughest position you may find yourself in trying to do the right thing when others are influencing you to go in another direction. It is critically important to stay true to yourself. I work in an industry where greed often leads people to do the wrong thing. Everyone can enjoy success – and have a profitable business – if they have integrity and do what is in the best interest of their clients and those that surround them.

My grandparents’ summer lake house – the whole family would gather and we would celebrate life together from sunrise to sunset. No TV; no computer; just the beach, sun and family. It was magical.
