Meet Mike Jiang of Project Eco in Kerny Mesa

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mike Jiang.

Mike, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I started my first business 3 years ago right here in San Diego. Long story short, it failed after 1 year and left me in a very rough spot in life. I eventually got back on my feet working for other people but I was crippled by fear of another failure. I still worked harder than anyone else I know to learn everything I can in the industry.

The eventual opportunity came up to partner with Simon Poonka to launch Project Eco sustainable home solutions ( I was armed with 2 years of industry knowledge and experience from my first failure. I combined that with my desire to crush it and we blew up out of the gate. We started with no operating capital no an initial investment and did our first 1.3 million within 3 months. 14 hour days 6 days a week weren’t uncommon throughout this process. We’ve not acquired another company in the industry and we’re poised to reach 10 million our first year. It’s been a crazy journey.

Has it been a smooth road?
There has been constant struggles. It was incredibly difficult to hire employees and expand without initial operating capital. Cash flow management was also difficult when there isn’t a cushion to start out with. It looks quite a bit of personal income sacrifice to build up what we have today.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
We specialize in energy efficient home remodels such as windows, roofing, HVAC, solar, turf, etc.

Our mission is to help homeowners increase energy efficiency, comfort, functionality and looks of their home while delivering the best experience. We are centered around our number 1 core value, which is “people first”. We’re looking to set a new standard in the construction industry, which has been tarnished with so many homeowners having bad experiences. What sets us apart is we genuinely care about our homeowners.

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
The San Diego housing market is expanding and getting older. There’s also been an upswing in the desire for energy efficiency. Our industry is most likely looking at steady growth.
