Today we’d like to introduce you to Mike Sherbakov.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Mike. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Entrepreneur, philanthropist and blockchain enthusiast on a mission to create a better world. My name is Mike Sherbakov and I believe that our greatness is not what we have but what we give.
I began my career in the United States Marine Corps where I served my country proudly. Recognized for my leadership and courage, I was promoted from Private (E1) to Sergeant (E5) in 3 years. Following my 5-year active duty service, I graduated Magna Cum Laude, with a 3.9 GPA, from SDSU with degrees in both Kinesiology and Psychology.
Upon graduation, I founded Karuna Towels in 2012, taking on the fight against malaria. Karuna Towels adopts a “One for One” business model and partners with Against Malaria Foundation to provide bed nets to families in Africa for each towel sold. 61+ Million bed nets have been distributed to date.
Learning the skills of starting and growing a successful social enterprise, I began consulting with purpose-driven startups and industry leaders alike. Goal setting programs for Lululemon Athletica, a national community engagement program for Fitbit, and a mindfulness program for Equinox were a few of the exciting projects I helped develop.
In 2016, I founded The Greatness Foundation with the mission to create a better world. The Greatness Foundation is a platform for world changers; helping individuals and organizations to be more, do more and give more so they can positively impact the world’s social and environmental challenges.
The first of it’s kind, The Greatness Foundation’s global community passionate about making a difference, continues to grow through our free content, engaging programs, and sustainable non-profit impact projects around the world.
Understanding the potential of cryptocurrency and the underlying technology for global development, I lead strategic partnerships for a blockchain fund and accelerator alongside investing, mining operations, and advising for projects in the space.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Absolutely not. 🙂 I encountered challenges (or opportunities to grow as I like to see them) every step of the way. From losing venture funding and having to shut down a startup overnight to the fears and doubts that crept in each time I made the choice to play a bigger game, it certainly hasn’t been an “easy” journey.
Please tell us about Greatness Foundation.
Guided by the belief that greatness is not what we have but what we give, Greatness Foundation is on a mission to create a better world. We provide resources and opportunities for our community of world changers to BE MORE, DO MORE, and GIVE MORE – ultimately aligning with our non-profit mission to ensure basic human needs and quality education for all. Impact projects range from homes in Mexico and Central America to schools in Nicaragua and Kenya to disaster relief in Puerto Rico.
I am most proud of the community we’ve built, 50K+ strong, that raised their hands to make a difference.
What sets us apart is two things:
1. We believe changing the world starts on the inside – This is why we create inspiring content and offer programs to our community to self-actualize
2. We invite our community members to see the impact of their contributions – All of our impact projects are open to those interested in joining
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
I would have started earlier 🙂
