Meet Miranda Luebkeman of Planet Palm Creative

Today we’d like to introduce you to Miranda Luebkeman.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I started Planet Palm Creative with the desire to break out of the 9-5 office life and to challenge the status quo on what the word “career” looked like for me. Before I started my company, I was right on track to climb the corporate ladder, which is what I thought success looked like. I worked at a local agency for several years and then worked in-house for one of the fastest growing organic food & beverage brands.

I found myself staying late at the office, working endlessly only to find little reward in return. I had this weird idea in my head that the longer I stayed in the office to work, the faster my career would grow; but I was terribly wrong. Back in 2015, I met a group of young entrepreneurs in the Encinitas community (where I was living at the time), who opened my eyes to an entirely different way of doing things.

They were creating these innovative, virtual-based businesses that were making a massive impact, yet also giving them the freedom to travel the world and create their own schedule. I value freedom more than anything, and working in the rigid 9-5 corporate world was making me feel trapped and limited.

I also feel the most inspired and motivated while I am traveling, so I set forth on creating a purpose-driven business to support a location-independent lifestyle that I would never have to vacation from.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
No, it definitely has not been easy. If it were easy, everyone would be doing it! 😉

I would say the biggest struggle for me has been around boundary setting. It’s funny – I created this business to give myself more freedom, but I find myself working more hours now than I did at my corporate job. I love the clients I serve so much so it has been difficult to press pause on my work and break away. In the beginning when I was establishing my business that wasn’t something I made a priority. Now that I’m in the second year of my business, I have created a much better routine that allows me to set time aside for focusing on myself.

Before I start any work in the morning, I meditate for at least 10 minutes and free write in my journal while I enjoy my morning coffee. I regularly practice yoga and try to treat myself to one massage or facial every other month. Self-care is so important as an entrepreneur. Implementing a regular self-care practice has helped me grow into the best version of myself possible, which reflects in the work I deliver to my clients. If there’s anything I’ve learned, it’s that it’s so important to fill your cup first.

Another struggle has been around outsourcing. I used to feel guilty about outsourcing work, but I have come to find how incredibly valuable it is for growing my business. I outsource things that I know someone else can do better, while I allow myself to focus on the things I know I am best at. I now have a copywriter, influencer marketing specialist and Pinterest marketing specialist helping me execute the strategies I set in place for my clients. It feels so good knowing that I have experts by my side. I highly recommend all entrepreneurs to consider outsourcing for their business.

Please tell us about Planet Palm Creative.
Planet Palm Creative is a boutique social media agency. Our mission is to help purpose-driven brands inspire, influence, and activate their online communities. Our comprehensive approach is unlike most social media agencies. We take the time to dive deep into your brand with a 3-part brand assessment that helps us establish a strong visual aesthetic and voice that will attract, engage and convert your ideal customers.

For small businesses who want a do-it-yourself approach, we offer Instagram re-brands and one-on-one coaching and consulting on social media strategy and visual direction.

For brands who want to completely outsource their social media marketing or undergo a full revamp of their digital marketing strategies, we offer full-service strategy, development and implementation, which includes Instagram management, Facebook management, Pinterest management, content creation (photography & blogging), Facebook / Instagram Ads, Pinterest Ads, influencer marketing, and more.

After my experiences at a high client turnover digital agency, my goal has always been to provide a high-end service that would include a lot more time with fewer clients that I have a very strong working relationship with. Instead of taking on a large amount of clientele, we limit the number of clients we work with at one time and have an application process in place to ensure we are a good fit for each other. I find that this type of partnership vastly improves the experience and makes the creative journey more enjoyable for both sides.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
I wouldn’t change a thing. I believe in failing forward, and everything I have gone through has shaped me and my business into what it is today. #noregrets!
