Today we’d like to introduce you to Monica Martin.
Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
My story has always included creativity, and eventually… ART. From the glorious 64 count box of crayons that I cherished, to making anything I could out of construction paper, tape and my imagination. And here I am, many years later, creating art in my studio and living my dream every day. I am a contemporary artist with an emphasis on abstracts and florals. I love using vibrant color combinations and painting artwork that brings joy to someone’s home or office. When beginning an abstract, it’s my quiet thoughts and emotions that influence the artwork. I typically listen to music, and am occasionally influenced by the mood or lyrics of the song. It’s all part of the process for me, and it’s a very personal journey. As far as my florals, they bring me such happiness to pass along. I love hearing how it provided a cheery spot in a kitchen or dining room of a customer. I work solely in acrylics, by choice, because they dry quickly and can be combined easily to create so many possibilities. Painting is my way of communicating love to my clients and loved ones.
Please tell us about your art.
As I shared earlier in my story, my process in creating abstracts and florals is a personal journey. I often include a quote, words, or song lyrics buried within the first few layers of the canvas. I do what I do, because for me, creating is a huge part of how I communicate. Whether it be happy, sad or pure joy…my emotions tend to come through my artwork. Each and every piece is a part of my story. I am honored when a customer connects with a piece and wants to purchase it for their home. As many artists say, we leave a little bit of ourselves in each piece we create…. it truly is our way of giving of our talents.
Do you have any advice for other artists? Any lessons you wished you learned earlier?
I would say to apply to gallery art shows as often as you can. It is a great way to meet other artists, as well as gives you themes to follow and challenge you. I was intimidated by the process, but realized… it was worth the risk.
How or where can people see your work? How can people support your work?
My original artwork and current work in progress can be seen in my studio at The Foundry Artist Studios, 2787 State St. Carlsbad Village, CA. In addition to there, you can find canvas reproductions, art prints and home decor through Fine Art America, on my website. I also have some of my artwork licensed, and it can be found on Amazon.com and Art.com
I apply to as many art shows as I can throughout San Diego County, and have had my artwork at Ashton Gallery in North Park, Fallbrook Art Center and Spanish Village in Balboa Park.
