Meet Natachia Miller of Natachia Miller Photography in San Diego

Today we’d like to introduce you to Natachia Miller.

Natachia, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I have always had a love for photography since I was a kid; something about being able to capture a moment forever was really amazing to me. My love & interest in cameras & photography carried on through my teenage years & into adulthood. I would obsessively take pictures on my little point and shoot cameras or my cellphones any chance I got. I really began taking a more serious interest once I had my oldest daughter. Capturing every moment of her growing was so important to me. I would dress her up, set up the background & use all sorts of props to take her photos. That continued when I had my second daughter as well. My girls are what really motivated me to pursue my dreams seriously & my husband is the one who really encouraged & reassured me with a million pep talks & helping me in any way he could. So after years of wanting to do this so badly, I had finally decided that I would take the steps I needed to in order to start my business & I am so glad I did. Now with inquiries and booking clients, I look forward to seeing my dream, passion, and business continues to grow. It’s an amazing feeling doing something I love so much.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
My biggest struggles so far have been more personal than anything. Of course, there are going to be some challenges when trying to start any business regarding finances, getting clientele, etc. For me personally, it has been trying to not get discouraged. I love what I do so much & I think that when anyone is starting a business with their craft that they are truly passionate about, it can be a gut-wrenching feeling when things don’t work out as planned right away. I always say Natachia Miller Photography is like my 3rd child & that if I love & nurture my business, it will grow & blossom. Through everything with continuing to stay positive & focused, I can say I am proud of where I have gotten so far.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
I have an interest in photography as a whole & I offer a variety of sessions to my clients, but for my business, I specialize in Families & Couples. Seeing the interaction between people & their loved ones is so beautiful to me. Families are important because it’s the base of everyone & everything they do. I love capturing those moments for other families that they will be able to look back on when their children are older. Couples mean a lot to me because seeing two people deeply in love is possibly one of my favorite things ever. Looking back at the photos seeing how much love & those sweet candid moments, I was able to capture between them is the best feeling ever. What I am most proud of about my business is the connections I make with my clients during their session & I think that is also what sets me apart from others. Making my clients feel comfortable & totally themselves is my goal. So, if that means helping parents with their kids while they’re playing around, me laying in the dirt to get those perfect shots, making jokes with the couples or anything I need to do for them, I will. We laugh, have a good time & leave the session knowing that a friendship was built.

What were you like growing up?
As a kid, I moved around a lot, so I think that my personality was very adaptable, but I was also really shy. I loved reading; I would sit for hours & hours reading chapters at a time of my books & would be so invested in every story. Also, from an early age, I was very into anything artistic & creative such as fashion, photography, drawing, all of it. It was an outlet for me to be able to express myself no matter where I was at. Other women in my family had a love for creating as well. I would watch my Grams paint the most beautiful pictures, see one of my aunts turn her fashion sketches into outfits & the other put so much thought into everything she wore & watch my mom put so much detail into every meal she made. So, I believe that having all of those creative influences around me helped bring out my love for photography at an early age.
