Today we’d like to introduce you to Natachia Miller.
Hi Natachia, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Ever since I was a little girl, I have always loved photography. As a kid, I was gifted little point and shoot cameras and again as a teenager. I would take pictures of anything and anyone I could all day long. I became a young mama and after having my girls I decided it was time to follow through with my passion. I wanted to be a good example to my daughters and show them that I could be their mama and still follow my dreams. I purchased a DSLR camera and learned everything I could. I would watch videos for hours trying to learn and spent a really long time practicing. I eventually offered model calls for family and friends. My husband would drive me to every shoot even if it was hours away just so I could get the experience I needed.
After a while, I launched my small business in January of 2019 with my tiny portfolio of work and from there I have put my entire heart into it. I’ve focused so much on growing my business, my skills, etc. I found the niche that I was in love with and centered my branding around couples & eventually moved into weddings. There is a lot of work, hours, and love that has gone into my business & I am so proud of where it is now.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I would say majority of running my business has been smooth, however, I’ve had my business since January 2019 & I have definitely had some obstacles on the way. Some of the struggles have been more personal than business related. Being a business owner, a mom & having a wide range of day to day things going on there can definitely be times where things feel like a lot. Especially when so much of my heart is in my business. Finding a solid balance between my everyday life & running my business has been my most recent goal. Regardless of the struggles big or small, I am so thankful to be able to do what I love. I have been blessed with such amazing experiences, clients & opportunities.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a photographer & I specialize in weddings, elopements, engagements & couples… Basically, I specialize in love. When starting out my business, I really focused on what style of photography called to me. I love photography as a whole but definitely wanted to center my business around a specific area. I had always imagined going into weddings since I love love so much, but I knew once I had experience with couples and weddings that would be the real deciding factor to see if that’s where my heart was really at.
From the second I shot my first couple session, I knew I wanted to focus my business around two people in love. Then when I shot my first wedding I knew that absolutely was what I wanted to do. Building my brand and my business around love has been such a heart warming experience. I have had so many love stories in-front of my camera & knowing that I have such a small but lasting part of their story means so much to me. I’m so proud of the galleries I deliver knowing these are the photos they’ll be hanging on their walls, posting for their anniversaries, showing their children & grandchildren someday mean so much to me.
We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
I would define success based on how a person manages to find a way to persevere when the odds are against them. My story isn’t the typical version of success & I’m definitely not yet where I fully want to be yet, however, I feel extremely proud of myself when I look at where I started versus where I am now. My definition of success definitely changed once I became a mother. To me overcoming obstacles, not letting life knock me down, staying focused on my dream even when life throws the worst at me, juggling motherhood & running a business, having a secure future for my family, those to me are my definitions of success.
