Meet Nathaniel Greene Jr of Nate G’s Family Salon in Kearny Mesa

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nathaniel Greene Jr.

Nathaniel, affectionately dubbed Nate G by his customers, and wife of 26 years Adrienne opened Nate G’s Family Salon in March of 2014. After Nate’s more than 20 years in the business, they decided to open their own salon where they could create a welcoming, relaxing and family atmosphere that they always wanted their customers to experience. Working side by side with son Andrew, Nate G’s Family Salon serves all nationalities. It is a place where mom, dad, and the kids are all served. Their motto is “A place where our family serves your family”.

His wife Adrienne books his appointments and manages the business so that Nate can focus on the business of hair.

Has it been a smooth road?
It has not always been smooth sailing. Their first location was 1000 square feet and beautifully designed by wife Adrienne. Customers and stylists alike loved it! They said it felt so welcoming and relaxing. Unfortunately, the hours of the facility did not accommodate the long hours that stylists required and in late 2015 they relocated to a smaller location.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Nate G’s Family Salon story. Tell us more about the business.
The goal at Nate G’s Family Salon is to provide an atmosphere where mom and dad can enjoy a cup of coffee, tea or hot chocolate while listening to smooth jazz or the entire family can watch a family-friendly movie while being served.

Nate G is a master barber and stylist. He has been cutting hair for 30 years. Precision cuts for men and women are his specialty. Relaxers, flat ironing, roller sets, wrap, hot curling and color are also services provided by Nate G. Nate G’s offers relaxing rest facials as well as head and neck massages. Both father and son work by appointment and will take walk-ins when available. What sets them apart is their rare ability to graciously engage mom and dad as well as be gentle enough to help a child through their first haircut and throughout their early years of service.

Son Andrew is a chip off the old block and has skills beyond his years. He too is known for his precise work. He specializes in hair design i,e. he is a hair artist. Like a tattoo artist, if you’d like the logo of your favorite team, or just about anything you can imagine, he can do it!

They are most proud of making their customers happy.

Nate has been nominated Barber of the Year by the San Diego Prestige Awards! Anyone can vote at www.theprestigeawards.com.

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
Nate G’s sees more cosmetologist servicing male clients in the next 5-10 years.
