Meet Nicole George of Nicole George Event Planning & Design

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nicole George.

Nicole, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
It all started 8 years ago while attending design school at San Diego State University! As an interior design major, I took an event design internship and let’s just say that I never looked back! I absolutely adored that I was able to design a customized experience on an intimate scale while helping my couple’s visions come to life. I realized back then, that I wanted to pursue event planning and design as my career. To this day, design is and will always be a core of the company, especially since we still incorporate design principles and tools such as CAD diagramming, hand-rendering, and mock-ups to help my couples visualize how their day will come together.

While still in school, I started working with two more leading San Diego event planning firms. The turning point for me was when I met my wedding planning mentor, Brenda Swann, who really sculpted me to be the best version of myself as a planner in this fast (and sometimes) crazy but extremely rewarding industry. While I was still working as a Planner with her company, she was supportive and encouraging with opening my own company. Talk about women supporting women! Even though I had already launched my company, I was also managing the Events Department in two museums in San Diego’s Balboa Park, executing over 300+ weddings and events with those two organizations. Since going full time with Nicole George Events 4 years ago, I’ve also expanded to a second location in Long Beach, California!

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I have to admit that business ownership is extremely rewarding (I would not trade this lifestyle for the world!) but there is an extreme learning curve that absolutely no one can prepare you for! I would be lying if I said that it is an easy road because there is no handbook – no matter how long you’ve been in business or how great you are what you do! Everyone has their own process, own background, own strengths and weaknesses, and own personal goals. The key is not comparing your business to others and although I have definitely fallen into that trap a few times, I take all of my experiences, both positive and negative, and use that to help shape where we are going as a company.

Most importantly, I’ve realized that you have to surround yourself with like-minded professionals…  that one that are going to build you up and support you because when you’re your own boss, it’s you and only you. We all need encouragement or to vent or whatever else so building your tribe is a life-saver when it comes to business ownership. I’m also a firm believer in the community over competition which has helped me took at the bumps in the road quite differently when I can share my experiences with others in my tribe.

Nicole George Event Planning & Design – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Nicole George Event Planning & Design is a Southern California wedding and event production and design company. Our focus is to create personalized and design-savvy celebrations for a clientele that values the lighter and brighter side of life and aren’t afraid to try something new. Most of our couples prefer to host a killer party with a side of the wedding and we totally support every detail of that mentality! As you have previously read, our background is in design so our couples typically contact us with a vision in mind, but looking for help putting it all together – that’s where we come in! Our planning and coordination services are heavily design-focused but are a fit for any stage of wedding planning.

Our work has been featured in print and online blogs such as Exquisite Weddings Magazine, 100 Layer Cake, Junebug Weddings, Artfully Wed, and Ruffled. Nicole George Events has also been a recipient of 2015, 2016, 2017, and 2018 Couples Choice Awards. Last, but not least, our proudest moments include getting to work with the most humble, giving, and thankful couples. It is so heartwarming reading their positive and kind words/reviews and shows that when you put positive energy out there, it returns!
