Meet Nicole Lyles, RN of The Bri Foundation and Candle Therapy Company in Chula Vista

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nicole Lyles, RN.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
In the year of 2000, my daughter, Briauna was diagnosed at the age of five with a rare-life threatening illness called Ornithine Transcarbamylase (OTC) Deficiency. This disease occurs in 1 in 80,000 births. This diagnosis was the beginning of a very turbulent and life-changing journey. Our family has battled this significant illness for nearly 20 years now. Briauna is now 24 years old and is finally on the list for a long-awaited liver transplant in hopes of finally allowing her to have a normal, productive and happy life. My life path essentially navigated me to the field of nursing after growing up with a mother, who is a nurse and then, ultimately facing my daughter’s unforeseen diagnosis. I am now a Registered Nurse and Entrepreneur. I established The Bri Foundation to create global awareness of this rare condition and to help other families in need of resources, support and information. I further established Candle Therapy Company as an affiliate of The Bri Foundation in order to give back to supporters of The Bri Foundation. Candle Therapy Company sells All Natural Soy Hand Poured Candles and Artisan Handmade Soaps. Our product line highlights a positive and spiritual approach to these relaxing products. Our candle product line features product names such as “Endurance, Faith, Strength and Peace, all of which represent the specific necessities in dealing with the effects of my daughter’s illness, Ornithine Transcarbamylase (OTC) Deficiency. Hand-making our candle and soap products has proven to be therapeutic to my soul and I absolutely enjoy hand-making each and every single product. We appreciate all support and would like to encourage the continued education and awareness efforts regarding this rare condition. For additional information about this disease, my e-book is available at www.TheBriFoundation.com which will also link to Candle Therapy Company. Thank you for this opportunity to share my story.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Unfortunately, having a child with a chronic life-threatening illness has been a very tough uphill battle and the mere duration of our dealing with this issue has been extremely taxing. Thus, the pursuit of success and maintaining quality of life has been very challenging, as Briauna experiences countless and frequent episodes of Hyperammonemia; a metabolic disturbance characterized by an excess of ammonia in the blood. It is a dangerous condition that may lead to brain injury and death. Despite this persistent difficulty, I have relied on my faith and trust in God to facilitate my endurance in this struggle. Therefore, I remain diligent in realizing the success of the businesses I have established.
