Meet Nikki Lopez of Classic Commercial Media in North County

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nikki Lopez.

Nikki, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
My journey to own a boutique production company is seemingly non-linear, however, every experience I’ve had up until now has to lead me to this point. I studied Political Science and Psychology in college. While I did take a few production courses, I was not in film school or did I realize the direction my career would go.

However, flashback to my childhood, and I always had a video camera in hand, we wrote scripts, made sets, filmed commercials and shows. When I was 10, I wanted to be a music video director when I grew up. Fast forward a few years, graduated from college, and working in a corporate setting and LOVING it. I managed a team, did business development and excelled at my job. However, I always worked side jobs, filming weddings with my mom (who also, for the record, owns her own business – Classic Filmworks).

Fast forward a few more years, I became a mom. After deciding to “go back to work”, I decided not to “go back” but to start my own production company. After working with my mom for 8 years on the side, I realized it was time. It was time to start my own company, that specializes in promotional content, commercials & social media. My mom was a huge mentor and encouragement to me when I started my own brand. We decided to keep our brands cohesive to each other as “sister” companies. (I like to joke that they are mother/daughter companies). We work very closely with each other’s businesses and it is a lot of fun.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It has been a piece of cake! The biggest obstacle for me was actually starting. I knew I wanted to do this a full year prior to actually starting. I kept making excuses and avoiding the inevitable. Finally, we got a substantial client, followed by several more inquiries for our commercial production services, so I made the jump and applied for my business license. The rest is history!

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Classic Commercial Media – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
We can do any type of video production. We are full service, meaning we can do everything: conceptualizing ad ideas, scripting, casting, shooting, and editing. I personally love the idea part. That is my favorite thing in the world, to come up with the ideas, and see them come to life.

While we don’t specialize in any one type of ad, we have the most experience filming health and fitness related companies. One thing we do love is promoting and helping other women business owners, so if we can create content for women that help their businesses grow – we LOVE that.

What makes us different is that we ARE two women, in an industry with a lot of men, its fun.

I’m most proud of our clientele, we’ve got some impressive companies in there! (Fit4Mom, AMN Healthcare, Dermaclara,

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
Big plans!? Always.

We have a client in Mexico (, and their clients are hiring us to create content for their businesses. The future looks great – we will be visiting twice a year to film. Since we love traveling too, it’s a win-win.

A fun YouTube series is in our future. We will be releasing it early next year, maybe sooner. Currently in production and its a super fun topic – WINE.
