Today we’d like to introduce you to Nikki Saito.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
My journey started almost 20 years ago in Beauty School. I had originally intended to be a hairstylist. Part of the curriculum was esthetics (facials, waxing, etc) which became my passion – so I switched from hair to esthetician.
I worked at different salons in the San Diego and Palo Alto areas and wore many hats. I was a full time Esthetician doing facials, waxing, makeup, you name it! I also worked in a few salons as a manger, as the business side of the industry always interested me and it taught me the value of customer service, and how important this is to a successful business. Good work isn’t enough – fantastic customer service retains your customers.
About 10 years ago is when I found my true love, shaping brows! I was hired on at Nordstrom Fashion Valley as the Brow Waxing Manager for Anastasia Beverly Hills, a dream come true! I had always waxed brows in the past but this was an entirely new concept for me & I was hooked! Her methods are amazing & make brows customizable for each person. After building up my reputation and clientele, I decided it was time to take the plunge & open a brow studio of my very own! I have over 1,500 regular repeat customers.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Luckily, I have been blessed with lots of support from my amazing family, friends & very loyal clients! My clients were very excited & eager to join me in my new business venture & quickly followed me to my new location. Without them I wouldn’t be where I am today! The biggest obstacle I have experienced is & was the fear of the unknown. Did I make the right move? Will I be able to support myself & my family, will I be successful? All very scary thoughts that will probably always circle my brain but I wouldn’t change this experience for the world!
Brows By Nikki – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Brows By Nikki is a friendly, relaxing & fun place to get your brows shaped & groomed. Brows are very important as they shape your face & are the frames to your eyes! Each person’s brows are different from shaping them, to helping them grow is very rewarding! As important as this craft is, I love to laugh & keep things fun! I really enjoy getting to know my clients & sharing our lives together one appointment at a time. I like to run Brows By Nikki like a family business where everyone feels comfortable & at home as soon as they walk in those doors. I’ve been lucky enough to go through big life events with clients from their first brow wax ever, to prom, to weddings, to child birth, to first grandchildren, the list is long! For that I feel Brows By Nikki will always be a special place to be a part of.
What sets me apart is I care. I get to know my clients, I write personal thank you notes, I follow-up. It is important for the clients to feel valued and important. I strive to provide 5 star service, so I take my reviews very seriously and follow-up with clients who aren’t satisfied to see how I can address their concern. Without satisfied clients I don’t have a business.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Success to me is all in customer service and keeping your word! Customer service is what people remember and look for in a business, I know I do! It makes your experience great from start to finish and keeps you coming back! Keeping your word, calling when you say you will, following up when you said you would. Never missing a beat & always going that extra mile.
I measure success by the number of repeat customers I have and the quality of service that I provide. Further, referrals by existing clients show that I am doing something right.
