Meet Nina Antinora

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nina Antinora.

Nina, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
My journey began when I boarded that plane with a one-way ticket from Newark to Los Angles back in 2012. Such an intense moment of personal change almost always has a catalyst. For me, it began in my late 20’s, with the loss of my beautiful and extraordinary mother Suzanne. She was my best friend, my biggest cheerleader and overall kick-ass life inspiration.

My heart was shattered into a billion pieces. To avoid the pain, I threw myself into my career and used that urgency to distract me from what I was feeling. I’m sure you can relate; sometimes it’s easier to stay busy than it is to face how you feel. With time, I learned that it will always come back to bite you. For me, that day came at 36. I felt stuck. I felt like I was under water. I knew there was more to life. I was ready for change.

At that moment, I realized something critical: that I held all the cards. That it was up to me to create my path and be true to it. Happiness was my decision and no one else’s, from work to love to friendship. I was never stuck and soulful success was in reach.

So, I set out on a wild journey and moved from New Jersey to Southern California with my adorable puggle, Lola. Truth is before I decided to take that huge leap, I was extremely stressed, overwhelmed, and unfulfilled. I had a difficult time squashing the burning pangs in my solar plexus. On the outside, I had it all. Although, inside I was often all twisted up like a pretzel and experienced an underlying feeling of sadness and entrapment.

Work was always first. I was a global executive producer for corporate events and training. It was an intense role that I enjoyed for the first decade of my career until it became all encompassing and to be honest soul crushing. Other people’s opinions often defined me. Self-imposed expectations and judgments structured my time, my priorities and even my sense of self-worth. Although I was extremely successful and highly respected in my previous career, I often found myself chasing something that was never quite fulfilling. No matter how many hours I worked (or how many frequent flyer miles I racked up), I always pushed to do more and mostly felt exhausted and unsatisfied.

When I decided to leave the career that I had been in for almost two decades and move across the country to reimagine my business and (entire) life, people thought I was having an early ‘mid-life crisis’. They feared I was running away. Unbeknownst to them, I had always felt that I was born on the ‘wrong coast’ and eventually I would find the courage to take that jump!

I can honestly say that I wasn’t running away from anything. In fact, I was running toward something and that something was and IS ME. And, this journey was my ‘mid-life AWAKENING’! Through self-discovery I stopped hiding, stopped trying to ‘keep up with the Joneses’ and quit imposing arbitrary and extremely high expectations of what happiness is ‘supposed to look like.’ I started asking myself the same question again and again.

What do I want out of my life?
I craved freedom from all of the negative thoughts and emotions that were preventing me from discovering my True North and Living Life on Purpose. I wanted to experience more daily joy and be in a career that is aligned with my greater good to create soulful success. Unlike my previous career that was more extrinsically motivating rather than derived from intrinsic passion.

I experienced a huge transformation through reconnection with nature, a reimagining of my career, a continuation of a constant search for self, soul and satisfaction. I worked hard to change my mindset and perspective so I can live a “pang free” life.

I can honestly say that I have never been more fulfilled! By going through my process of self-development I uncovered my greatest gift and passion— to motivate and inspire others to create their own daily joy and soulful success! And, this is how Change It Up, LLC. was born!

Oh, and even more amazing, I ended up finding the love of my life in Los Angeles. We married in 2017 and moved to our dream home with our two fur babies in Cardiff by the Sea. Although it was scary flying into the unknown back in 2012, I am so grateful that I pushed through the fear and took that leap!

Encinitas is such a special beach town. We are so grateful that we get to call this our home.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
OMG! Not at all! Starting a new business is never easy, but it is worth it! While I was building Change It Up, LLC. and closing down my previous business, I had to juggle both. That was tough—managing my time and energy to stay focused and positive with what I was creating and not going back to old habits and mindset. I also founded a non-profit 12 years ago (AGFS Foundation) that I run seasonally and at the time I was creating Change It Up I was also navigating a new relationship. Oh, and I also moved twice and had a full hip replacement all within my startup timeframe!

Most people thought I was insane for taking this new life changing endeavor on with such a full plate, but on the other hand, they knew this was my calling and I wasn’t going to take no for an answer.

I’m proud to say that I didn’t allow any of the above obstacles to prevent me from achieving my goals. I couldn’t allow fear to squash my desire to create a business that truly improves other people’s lives. Whenever I would consider throwing in the towel, I thought about all of the those who would benefit from my area of expertise.

It took about three years to get Change It Up successfully off the ground. Then, we moved from LA to SD. And, in many ways, I needed to start again in a new location. Almost a year later in Encinitas, I’m so happy to say that Change It Up has been welcomed with open arms in our community and I’m excited for what’s to come!
