Meet Nitin Jain and Deepti Jain of Anokiwave in Carmel Valley and Del Mar

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nitin Jain and Deepti Jain.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Anokiwave started in 1999 as a design service company. Within two years it catapulted as a premier boutique design house doing cutting-edge ICs designs for satellite communication, automotive radar, A&D, wireless and other communication markets. During the next decade, Anokiwave designed many highly integrated silicon-based System-on-Chip ICs. Many of these ICs went into commercial deployments by our customers helping in such application as internet connection, automotive radar for safety and convenience and other aerospace and defense usage.

In 2013, Dr. Nitin Jain anticipated the rapidly transforming mm-wave IC markets and reformed Anokiwave by inviting Mr. Robert Donahue to Anokiwave as CEO. Mr. David Corman also decided to join as Chief Systems Architect. Together we transformed from a design service company to a product company that develops ICs for 5G, SATCOM, and A&D markets.

We are growing and leading in all three of our target markets: A&D, SATCOM, and 5G Telecommunications. Right now, we are the leader in the market––with products in these applications. In May of last year, we introduced the AWMF–0108, a 28 GHz Active Antenna IC for 5G telecommunications infrastructure markets— which has been a phenomenal product for us. In June of this year, we introduced 39 GHz companion chipsets also for 5G telecommunications infrastructure markets.

We have recently released two 28 GHz 5G Phased Array Active Antennas with the intent of demonstrating the performance level achievable using our IC technology. We are focused on ramping product development and will be introducing several new products in the near future. Anokiwave continues to innovate and lead the world to make mmW Active Antennas a reality.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
In the past, one of the biggest challenges was transforming a design service company into a product company. The reforming of the company helped achieve this. Now that the company is growing rapidly we continue to attract good talent and innovative people.

We brought key talent aboard over the last years across our offices in San Diego and Boston, increasing headcount by 20 percent, and doubling our square footage. One particularly big move was in San Diego, where our team moved into a new office double the size of its previous space. We also added full-time sales and applications engineer positions in Asia and Europe. We are always looking for talented candidates to join our team.

A fast-growing company also needs cash and resources. Anokiwave’s latest series C financing will drive continued growth of its world-class product leadership in the 5G, SATCOM, and A&D markets with innovative IC architectures and systems solutions.
