Meet Ntuthu Dlamini of Georgina’s Glow in Poway

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ntuthu Dlamini.

Georgina’s Glow located within Sola Salons in Poway, was established in May 2017 by Ntuthu. She is an ITEC Certified Aesthetician, NovaLash Trainer and Murad Inclusive Health Practitioner among other qualifications. She has been licensed for over 12 years. Prior to taking on a career in the Beauty and Wellness industry, she studied Media and Communications in Johannesburg, South Africa and worked as a Public Relations Officer, Marketing Assistant and owned a consulting business offering Marketing and Communications Solutions to a variety of Clients including the Interior and Architectural Design Industry as well as Telecommunications, to mention a few.

In 2004, Ntuthu moved to San Diego from South Africa and Swaziland and decided to change career paths seeking to do something meaningful. Ntuthu has always had a penchant for the beauty and wellness industry. She was raised by a Fashion Designer/Beauty Editor and a Doctor allowing her to experience the best of both worlds, which guided her in the direction her career is currently going. “I remember wearing my moms’ make up at a very young age and my dad taking time off from his surgical duties to drive me to go and buy beauty products.”

Ever since then, she knew that she wanted to do something fun to bring joy to others in some way. She loved the beauty aspect that she experienced with her mom and the health and wellness aspect from her dad. Upon moving to San Diego, she enrolled to study towards acquiring her Aesthetics License and here they are.

Please tell us about Georgina’s Glow.
Prior to starting my own business, I knew that the best way to really understand how this industry worked was to work for different establishments in order to gain knowledge and experience. I wanted to learn the ins and outs of running a spa. It was also important for me to work on my skills and get to a level where I was confident in what I was doing. I found myself at L’Auberge Del Mar, which provided for a great overall experience. I however, took a break when my son was born in 2009 and when I returned to work I started my first business, Royal Treatment in 2011. It was an eye-opening experience and I learnt that in this business, one has to push. Clients want to know why they should spend their hard-earned money on your services regardless of the benefits. I learned to respect a Clients’ time and money and made sure that I excelled in every treatment. With business being slow at Royal Treatment, I went on to become Master Aesthetics Educator at a renowned Beauty School here in San Diego in 2012. I kept the business until filing for divorce in 2013.

My position as an educator took my skills, knowledge and experience to another level. In as much as I taught advanced aesthetics, I learnt a lot as well. I was able to network with industry contacts and train with different companies who offered a plethora of modalities and technologies including HydraFacial MD and Envy Medical’s Silk Peel Dermal Infusion as well as Nova Lash.

Today, that extensive knowledge and experience allows me to offer hand-picked and customized facial treatments based on different skin types and common skin conditions such as hyperpigmentation, dehydration, fine lines, wrinkles, sensitive skin and acne. I have come to truly understand how the skin functions and how it responds to certain ingredients and treatments. I have learned to respect the skin as the largest organ and that it needs to be taken care of because once damaged, it takes a lot of money, effort and commitment to reverse that damage.

At Georgina’s Glow, Ntuthu also performs layered chemical resurfacing treatments to effectively remove dead skin cells revealing healthy and youthful skin for that ‘Glow’. Other services offered include NovaLash Eyelash Extensions, Microdermabrasion, Full Body Waxing treatments, Customized Back facials as well as SunFx Sunless Spray Tan. Most treatments are available to both female and male clients. Retail products carried include COOLA Organic Suncare and NovaLash among others. As time progresses, Ntuthu intends to introduce more result-oriented treatments such as the HydraFacial MD.

Ntuthu incorporates beauty and wellness in to all her treatments and services. The name of the business is inspired by the fact that ‘Georgina’ is Ntuthu’s middle name, named after her paternal Great-Grand Mother, which seemed fitting to use in this new venture. Her passion for health and wellness is prevalent in her approach to skin care. “When dealing with the skin, I incorporate methods from my experience at Dr. Murad’s University for Inclusive Health where the skin is treated holistically; topically, internally by what we eat and in how we manage what Dr. Murad calls, Cultural Stress™.” All of these factors come in to play when wanting to achieve long lasting healthy skin that glows. “Healthy cells equate to healthy organs.”

“The most exciting part of my business is that I have the privilege to source the best products for my Clients, products that I also use and truly believe in.” Ntuthu follows a consistent regimen, which includes interval exfoliation, tons of SUNSCREEN and hydration through nutrition and products. This routine helps to keep her skin glowing and youthful even though she maintains that genetics play a huge role as well. She lives an active lifestyle and loves to play with her son and practice football and basketball whenever she can. Some of her activities include but are not limited to going to the Bar Method regularly and enjoys Hot Yoga whenever her schedule permits. She had the privilege of getting certified as a Yoga Teacher with Core Power Yoga to add to her repertoire. Ntuthu enjoys a peaceful hike at Torrey Pines. She loves taking the Beach Trail where she gets to take her shoes off to complete her hike with a walk on the beach when the tide permits.

As an advocate for living a healthy lifestyle and taking care of your skin from the inside out, Ntuthu creates an inviting and peaceful environment where Clients can truly kick back and forget about the daily stresses of life. She makes sure to have either a live plant or fresh flowers to make the ambiance as peaceful and welcoming as possible. Ntuthu also avails a diverse playlist customized to her Clients’ mood. “I like to add a personal touch to every experience in order to make my Clients feel comfortable.

“I LOVE the beauty and wellness industry. There is so much to offer people who are determined to make themselves a priority. Georgina’s Glow represents freedom to do what I love without limitations. I always feel a peace about me whenever I am there! I can be creative and cater to my Clients’ individual needs and truly love them in whatever way their soul calls me to.” Ntuthu intends to further her studies in order to see her business grow into an empire that she can leave to her son.

“As a creative spirit, I have the liberty to develop new protocols and bring in new products as and when I feel inspired to do so. My plan is to expand my brand by launching a Luxury Spa and Lounging Apparel line among other ventures in the not-so-distant future, so watch this space!” Until then, “Come on and Glow with me!”

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The journey getting here has not been an easy one. My childhood dream was to become a doctor, like my dad. I loved hanging out with him and was his ‘unofficial Pharmacist’ when he needed assistance. However, when I was a teenager, both my parents passed away within six weeks of each other. I lost a mentor in my dad and was not able to follow through with that dream. I was lost for a very long time. I eventually went on to study Media and Communications and continued on that path until moving to San Diego from South Africa and Swaziland in 2004. I also played around with the idea of becoming an Architect so as to tap into my creative side, where my mom was an inspiration but I guess God had other plans for me. I often feel like I am having a career midlife crisis. In all honesty, I still toy with the idea of going to Medical School, but at the age of 44 and having to raise an 8-year-old child, I may need to put that thought on hold for a while. Nonetheless, I believe that as I continue to move forward, one day everything will come into alignment.

Being in this business and industry is no walk in the park. There is a lot of pressure to yield results in every treatment I perform. It is a people driven industry and one never knows how they will respond to your work and the results there off. It takes a lot of work to convince someone to believe in your work, especially when they come to you for the first time. The one thing that keeps me grounded is knowing that I’m on the right path, I enjoy what I do and I always do my best. Everything that I do is with an open heart and with good intentions while sticking to what is safe for my Clients. I have no control over the actions and reactions of others but I have the ability to control how I perform every treatment and I make sure that I run my business with integrity.

In as much as it is exciting to source different products for my Clients, I’ve experienced rejection where some companies are not open to working with a small business simply because I was not prepared to place a large opening order for retail purposes. In my previous business at Royal Treatment, I found myself stuck with a ton of products that did not sell as fast as anticipated. But, we live and learn.

Another challenge I have come across is that I often receive inquiries about treatments that are out of scope of practice for Aestheticians in the State of California. I have to inform potential Clients that I do not offer certain treatments for ethical purposes. Thankfully, I do not take anything personally and I am able to discern what is meant for me and what is not. I firmly believe in continued education to stay abreast of the industry and in the fact that when you excel at what you do, Clients remain loyal.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about GEORGINA’S GLOW – what should we know?
Georgina’s Glow is a full-service Beauty and Wellness Boutique that offers result-oriented treatments and services including Customized facials, Chemical peels, Microdermabrasion, NovaLash eyelash extensions, Full body waxing and SunFx sunless spray tan. Most services offered are available to both females and males.

I am known for the result-oriented facial treatments as well as talking to my Clients about taking care of themselves holistically. I maintain that the best healthcare is preventative healthcare. I am not a doctor or a nutritionist but I do understand the difference it makes when we nurture ourselves. Surprisingly, I am also known to be gentle in all my waxing treatments, including the Brazilian. I make my Clients feel at ease knowing that the experience can sometimes be uncomfortable. The type of wax that I use is very gentle and easy on the skin.

I take the time to customize every treatment according to my Clients’ needs, taking into account not only their skincare needs but also the type of music they would like to listen to during their treatment. I incorporate breathing techniques acquired in my yoga teacher training to help them to relax and thoroughly enjoy their session. I like to take my time and make sure that my Clients get their moneys’ worth. One of my clients actually told me that the facial she received from me was like nothing she could do at home. That is my intention. I provide practical tools and tips for a comprehensive home care regimen but I make sure that my Clients see and feel the difference after every treatment and weeks after that.

Over and above the services I provide, I have an incredible sense of humor so there are a lot of laughs along the way. I offer hugs to Clients who are open. Of course, I ask for permission because I too, am not always open to being hugged, but from time to time we all could use a hug.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Staying true to self and doing what I love is most important to my success. Ethics and doing things with integrity is paramount. I do believe that from that everything else flows. I am also very sensitive to energy, in the same breath, people can sense when your heart is not in whatever it is that you are doing and they respond to that. As it is said “be responsible for the energy you bring.”
