Meet Kelly Collier of Plot Twist Design in Philadelphia

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kelly Collier.

Kelly, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I’ve always had a love for interior design and decorating. I officially started my Interior Design business one year ago in February 2019. During my first few months, I earned a professional certificate in Interior Design attending Temple University in the evening while working full time. I completed formal interior design business coaching, panel discussions, and workshops as well. I’ve established solid client relationships over the last year designing and decorating about 20 spaces. Having two businesses, the second being Plot Twist Home has allowed me to combine my passion for design and real estate together. I’m a licensed PA Realtor, as well as an Interior Designer.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Overall I would have to say it’s been more smooth than not, however there were some struggles. One struggle was balancing a full-time career with starting a new business. Another was the starting up process. The start-up phase itself was a challenge doing it all independently; from the LLC paperwork to creating my own website, every step was time-consuming. The fact that I also started with three clients within the first month of being in business made all the hard work worthwhile immediately!

Please tell us about Plot Twist Design.
My business offers interior design services, including consulting, e-design, and full interior design and decorating for residential and commercial clients. We also offer real estate services. Besides working with buyers and sellers as a Realtor, I also offer Airbnb and real estate staging for smaller-scale projects. I believe I’m known for my love for table styling and fresh flowers are a staple in every project.

I am most proud of the fact that we’re going into year two having the second entity of the business thriving. What sets our business apart from others in the interior design industry is that we’re a multi-business model offering interior design and real estate services combined, in addition to being a licensed retailer.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
My favorite memory from my childhood is one I’ll never forget. My grandparents took my brother and I Christmas shopping and let us pick out everything we wanted before Christmas! Besides the shopping spree that seemed like a dream come true, my fondest memories were the days of playing with Barbie dolls for hours. Decorating and rearranging my Barbie Dream House was my favorite thing to do, and every room was fully furnished!
