Meet Rabeka Harrison of Together As {3Point} One

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rabeka Harrison.

Rabeka, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I started my company Together As {3Point} One a few years ago to after having several close friends pass away from terminal illnesses. It was heartbreaking to watch them struggle to make ends meet after such devastating life events. Daily bills go unpaid all the while medical bills stack up, depression and grief kick in making it that much harder to keep up with the demands of daily life.

I have had a lot of loss in my life. And know first-hand how difficult it is to be able to help those around me with more than a sympathy card, food or flowers. I so desperately wanted to do more but it is a sensitive time for the family experiencing a death so how do you help without stepping on toes?

After having several dreams about helping a close family friend raise money to pay for medical bills etc., I decided to start my company to be able to help more people. Along the way we found that there was a huge need for smaller charities to raise awareness and funds for their causes. So we branched out to help them achieve this!We have been able to raise a substantial amount of money for several local families and non-profits in need.

Together As {3Point} One mainly hosts 5k running events to raise awareness and funds for non-profits but we also host anything from a bake sale to yacht parties, depending on what our client’s needs are.Our goal is to help as many non-profits reach their goals and bring our communities together.

We started off only helping 2 families and 2 Non-profits in our first year and to being on target to helping a dozen non-profits in our third year, as well as setting a World Record! We are passionate about what we do and we love our San Diego communities!

Together As {3Point} One….. Bringing the Community Together Every 3.1 Miles

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road for me. Our first year saw major bumps when my business partner died suddenly from a stroke and we had to scramble to figure out how to continue without him. Reformatting the business and postponing some events to be able to handle the workload was difficult, to say the least. Just as we were getting back on track, building momentum and business starting to grow again, I was kidnapped by a stranger Downtown San Diego last year. It was all over the news and such a traumatic experience.

Needless to say, business came to a screeching halt so I could deal with police interviews, court dates, criminal trial, therapy and much needed me time. I wanted so badly to host our world record event last year hoping it was a good distraction to the chaos that was going on in my personal life, but we ended up needing to reschedule it, yet again. I have lost major sponsors and event partners because if it and am now fighting to get back on track, if not for myself, for my non-profits that have stuck by my side and are counting on me. I have even gone as far as to get several part time jobs to meet financial obligations for my company and my family. This pulls me from my company but brings in much needed financial relief to keep things moving and back on track.

I have had so many major heartbreaks, trauma, struggles and setbacks that I have wanted to walk away several times. This past year and a half has especially been difficult dealing with personal trauma, major depression, anxiety and PTSD. However, my desire to help others is stronger than anything that can try to break me. It isn’t about me, it is about my community, my fellow San Diegans, my non-profits we support. I have a calling to serve which is greater than the sum of my critics, my pain, my struggles and circumstances.

Please tell us about Together As {3Point} One.
Together as {3Point} One is an event planning / managing company. We host any event our client wants but we specialize in the 5k. We host mainly 5k / 10k running events to raise money for Non Profits. . A 5k running event is the ideal event to bring many members of our communities together to support a cause in an affordable, fun, energetic atmosphere. We are known for our amazing swag that each of our participants receive. I am proud of our resilience and tenacity to press forward through hardships!! I am also proud of our World Record Setting 5k in 2018. It is going to be the LARGEST 5K IN STILETTOS!

We are unique in the fact that instead of having an event that benefits one Non-profit, we have our events set up to accommodate a dozen non-profits while building the best events we possibly can. We believe that when we come together in support and love everyone wins! There are some amazing other event companies in town that we also refer business to if we cannot take a client.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
If I had to start all over I wouldn’t do anything differently. I have learned so much about how resilient and strong I am and if I can go through those horrific things, I can do so much to pass on the gift of hope and resilience to others. Even getting kidnapped has taught me so much. It has taught me what I want to focus on in my life, how to let things go that truly don’t matter, to live the life you want and to help as many people as I can.
