Meet Rachel Estrada

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rachel Estrada.

Hi Rachel, so excited to have you on the platform. So, before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
How I started my journey in the industry well it all comes back to being a little girl always infatuated with how colors blended, my oldest brother was an artist and did amazing artwork from graffiti to murals very impressive skills with amazing color combinations and colors. Fast forward to middle school I always loved makeup I guess you can say that’s where I saw my love for color was with makeup. I was always known as the girl with a ton of makeup lol I was that girl. Once I graduated high school, I went to beauty school @ 17-18yrs old to get my cosmetology license, landed my first job at the beauty counter, and worked for bare minerals for about 3 years during that time I had finally got my license with the state board and I ended up hating doing hair, there was no passion there, at least as much as I had for makeup. I loved making people feel amazing and just enhancing their features, and then the dream job every makeup girl wanted I landed I worked for MAC cosmetics for about 5 years. I was always freelancing and did side gigs and weddings. Come to find out I loved doing bridal and having that whole experience with my brides and bridal parties it was so much fun. I decided to leave my job after I had my son in 2019 to focus on my wedding business full-time and it was the best decision I ever made.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
At first, it was until we had the ultimate shut down. I also was pregnant with my daughter is 2020 and I felt like had to start all over again by putting myself out there and promoting myself in the most organic way possible. Luckily, I had so many returning clients, and with the help of social media constantly putting out content & referrals.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m a professional makeup artist, I’ve been in the industry for about 10 years. I do all types of glam, specials occasion, and bridal. I love me a good glam, I’d say that’s what I’m pretty much known for, a soft pretty full glam in San Diego. I would say I’m most proud of never giving up or never letting anyone tell me “It wasn’t a real job” because it sure is. It pays the bills it’s a job. I always continue to learn and grow as a makeup artist. Getting all the experience I need to be the best that I can be at my job. I’m so proud that a gained so much experience all these years to be confident as I am today.

Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
I love my city; San Diego is the most beautiful place I’m so proud to be born and raised here in day. We have the best food great weather with a handful of rain No complaints at all other than we don’t have actual seasons here Haha
