Thanks for sharing your story with us Raquel . So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I have been working in the salon industry since I was 16 years old. I’ve done every job associated with the salon life from being the cleaner, the receptionist, an assistant, a stylist, to now being the owner. Being a salon owner has been my dream since adolescence. Opening Love Spell Salon last year changed my life for the better and it feels amazing to put reality to a lingering vision in my head for so long.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
The biggest struggle in the construction of the salon had to be the ADA compliance laws and regulations that took effect in 2016 (the year I opened of course). Old construction of the business inhabiting the space prior didn’t meet regulation so last minute funding and reconstructing seemed to be an ongoing issue to make sure every inch was accounted for and approved by not only the city but the ADA as well. Business wise the main struggle is battling the “what if” factor in every owners mind. “Can I fill the salon with enough stylists to keep the business afloat?” Was the biggest topic on my mind. I’m very grateful to say that in just one year of business we don’t have one empty chair, I am fully staffed with 13 stylists!

What sets apart Love Spell Salon from other Salons, is the theme. I am a Halloween fanatic all year long and interests of mine are reflected in the salons decor. Spooky, cute, witchy yet bedazzled is the best way to describe our salon. We specialize in hair extensions, vivid bold color, balayage, makeup and haircuts. We have 13 stylists who all bring something to the table. There isn’t anything we cannot do!
Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
I accredit my success to my father. Without his business skills and ways of thinking I wouldn’t be the driven person I am today. I picked his brain since I was a child, which inevitably led to owning my own business. Whenever the road gets rough no matter how busy or tired my father may be, he always is the number one person I’ve ever been/ will ever be able to count on.
