Today we’d like to introduce you to Rebecca Bates, Ashley Reichert.
Rebecca, Ashley, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
We were working together for the previous owner of the salon, who was not in the beauty industry. Business was slow but we saw the great potential the salon had. We had been thinking how great it would be to own our salon one day as a family. Little did we know, he would be putting the salon up for sale the next month. We pulled together as a family and got all the funds we needed to embark on our new journey! It’s definitely had its ups and downs but in the 3 years since we took over ownership; we have filled all of our chairs, brought many new clients through the door, and have grown so much as stylists and business owners!
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Our primary struggle was lack of internet presence. We were on the 3rd page of Google and Yelp…LOL!
I also want to add that our phone number on Google was of a business with the same name as us in North Carolina.
Have you ever tried to call Google?! Well…we have! And we can tell you it’s NOT FUN.
A lot of work goes into creating an internet presence. Things they never taught us in beauty school. With a limited budget we were our own IT and Digital Marketing Team. Today, we have 5 Stars on Yelp and we’re on the 1st page of Google! Woohoo!
The Hair Parlour – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
We are a Hair Salon. We only do what we do best…Hair! Although we work on all hair textures, we specialize in Curls and Waves. It’s shocking to us that there are such few Salons that do. 70% of the population have some type of movement to their hair. We’re empowering our clients by teaching them and giving them tools to embrace that movement. It’s easier for the client and much healthier for their hair.
Once you walk through our front door you can immediately sense its different than most salons here. Our salon is really an extension of our family.

On a typical day in The Hair Parlour clients are engaging with each other as well as the stylists. Clients are welcome to and are completely comfortable visiting different stylist within the salon. We understand peoples’ lives are busy and we want them to be able to book whenever is convenient for them. There is no client ownership we are a team at The Hair Parlour.
What’s your Favorite Childhood Memory?
Rebecca: My favorite child hood memory is when my Aunt Lynn let me roll a “water perm” on my best friend. My aunt had a mini salon in the back room of her house. i was so little I had to stand on a chair as to reach her head as she sat in the salon chair. Once we dried the “water perm” we took out the rollers and she hated it!!!! lol didn’t stop me!
Ashley: When i was 7, my friend had a “Mad Science” themed birthday party, long story short. Slime got in my hair and i decided i would just deal with it on my own. So i snuck up stairs and chopped my hair off and put it back up in a bun. My mom then went to the bathroom and saw all the slimy hair in the trash can and then put two and two together….oops!
