Meet Reed Davis of Functional Diagnostic Nutrition

Today we’d like to introduce you to Reed Davis.

Reed, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I’m Reed Davis, founder of Functional Diagnostic Nutrition® (FDN) and I want to thank you for this opportunity. Back in the 90’s, I was an Environmental Paralegal (University of San Diego), and I was SAVING THE PLANET! Saving the birds, bees, air, water, and trees. I noticed the environment was destroying a lot of these things, and twenty years ago, I turned my attention to “what’s it doing to people, including me?” I wanted to be in control of my own health and my own destiny and didn’t want any diseases or anything else sneaking up on me.

I went to work running a Wellness Center in Poway, CA and had the most amazing opportunity there when the physician/owner was getting her diplomat in nutrition. She said I could go along with her as an assistant and work with her patients between my classes! That’s when I fell in love with the clinical side of the business, working face to face with Ms. Smith and Mr. Jones. What I noticed really disturbed me; almost every person coming into the office had already seen multiple practitioners and wasn’t better yet! And they were desperately searching for someone that could finally help solve their problems!

That’s when I first recognized this huge gap in health care, and the patients were all caught in this “cycle of trial and error.” And I thought, “Wow, what a rip-off!” I also know an opportunity when I see one and, as naïve as I was at the time, I decided I would be the last person they needed to see to get better. I knew that control over their health should be in their own hands, not someone else’s. And the same goes for you. Control of your health should be in your own hands, and so should the health of your business and your happiness be in your own hands. We just learned that someone else could control our future because many of us got shut down. I can show anyone that they can be in total control of their own health, their businesses, their future, and their happiness.

It was at a Chiropractic Seminar I learned about running labs. And once I got started, I could not be stopped. I didn’t really know what I was doing yet but started doing a lot of it. Mostly women at first, but when they got great results, they brought me their husbands and children. Even early on, I had tremendous success when running functional labs and identifying underlying contributors to poor health. I was pretty encouraged to keep exploring and the more labs I ran, the more I learned to identify “healing opportunities.”

I ran thousands of lab tests on thousands of people, and while I had great mentorship, I made my own observations about who got better and who didn’t. It will be no surprise that those working closest to the underlying causes got the best results. But what is not so intuitive is that people with the exact same set of symptoms had completely causes, different areas of dysfunction, upstream. What worked beautifully on one person had no effect on another. That’s when I coined the phrase, “Metabolic Chaos®. But over ten years of running thousands of labs on thousands of people, I recognized some patterns. No matter what the patient’s complaints were, no matter what their previous diagnosis was, I discovered what we call the H.I.D.D.E.N. stressors and dysfunctions at the root of almost every chronic stress-related disease or illness.

I was always an excellent organizer and was filling in a lot of the pieces of the puzzle that lead to developing Functional Diagnostic Nutrition® (FDN) and eventually to the D.R.E.S.S. for Health Success® protocols and what is now considered by many as the number one stand-alone health coaching programs, and the Perfect Complement™ to evidence-based medicine.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Struggles along the way? Developing a completely new methodology to achieve and maintain health has not always been a smooth road. The biggest struggle at first turned out to be my best asset. In the beginning, I wondered how I could become the last practitioner a person needed to see to finally and permanently overcome their health complaints when I was not a doctor and had little background in health sciences. But then a physician friend of mine encouraged me to continue my research and struggles. He said, “Be glad you’re not a doctor Reed and that you can’t simply write a prescription for the symptoms. You’re going to have to learn to uncover what’s really wrong with a person and then teach them how to fix it themselves”. Those words kept me going. As I ran thousands of labs on thousands of people, I started to recognize the patterns and the underlying causes of almost every chronic stress-related and self-inflicted health problem. Today I teach hundreds of others a logical, practical, straight-forward methodology that allows anyone to get well and stay well naturally.

We’d love to hear more about the company.
AFDNP Inc. is multiple-seven-figure company helping thousands of people around the world to regain health. We do this by teaching elite “health coaches” how to identify healing opportunities and help their clients adhere to non-drug, all-natural solutions to almost any chronic health problem. No other health coaching program teaches the lab work, including the anatomy, physiology, and biochemistry behind the labs. And no other health coaching program teaches how clients can improve the function of every cell, tissue, organ and system in the body. FDN Practitioners don’t diagnose or treat disease; we build health in the face of it by going upstream to the underlying causes. We’re known as the most robust, science-based health coaching program available due to the level of training we provide and the community we have developed over the years. FDN is the most respected stand-alone health coaching methodology and is also the Perfect Complement to evidence-based or functional medicine.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
Reed grew up in Canada and moved to the states in the 60’s as a young teenager when his parents emigrated from Toronto. He was encouraged to pursue his own interests, including art and literature, and also loved hunting and fishing with his father and brother. Today he still spends many hours per week in the outdoors. He lives in So Cal, expanding his training program and helping his tribe of graduates build robust businesses of their own. When not teaching or developing new lessons, he can be found gardening on his lakeside property or riding motorcycles in nearby hills and desert. He is most proud of the community that grew out of his training. The FDN alumni is a close-knit group of over 3000 practitioners united in a common cause; to help people take charge of their own health and happiness.
