Meet Regina Ransom of Pampered Soaps

Today we’d like to introduce you to Regina Ransom.

Hi Regina, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
As a child, I grew up around herbal medicines and handmade personal care products. My grandmother raised me and she did not believe in using anything that had toxic chemicals in it. My grandmother grew her own vegetables and her own herbs. I spent years learning alongside my grandmother. Once I became a young adult with a husband and kids of my own, I continued the tradition of making my own products. I also grew my own herbs and made my own herbal medicines. I went to college to obtain a doctoral degree in naturopathic medicine when I was in my early twenties so I could properly make herbal medicines for various illnesses. In 1997 I was diagnosed with Cancer and after trying various treatments and chemo from doctors, I was told I only had maybe seven or eight months to live. It was then that I stopped seeing my Cancer doctors and took my health into my own hands. I blended specific herbs and made them into a tincture form so that I could easily take the tincture worth my herbal teas. After treating myself for only three months, I went back to the doctors for a follow up and my Cancer was gone. 22 years later, I am still Cancer free. This experience was the starting reason for creating Pampered Soaps. I was able to utilize all my education and life experience to help make products that are vegan and help solve real-life problems. Pampered Soaps is so much more than a soap store, it is a full apothecary and vegan skincare company. In 2016 after my daughter and my husband moved to California, we started Pampered Soaps only online. We recently have grown so much that we will be opening our first retail store on in August of 2021.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has not been a smooth road at all. We spent the first few years of Pampered Soaps working out of our home and after being online for only four months, we got our first big wholesale order of 6,000 bath bombs and 1,500 soaps. We not only did not have the room for this in our little apartment, but we had no clue at how much we were underpricing ourselves. This wholesale order almost sent us into bankruptcy and almost caused us to completely shut down. We had to create a go fund me page to ask for support to keep Pampered Soaps alive. Our website was shut down for a period of 6 months, but we eventually got things back up and running. I created a full catalog line sheet and process for wholesale orders going forward and I got a clearer vision of how to price our products and calculate the cost it takes to make the product accurately.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Pampered Soaps?
Pampered Soaps is a full-service black-owned family business. We specialize in making only vegan products that solve real-life issues. We make soaps, personal care products, vegan candles, and herbal teas and medicines. We are more known for our candles and our herbal teas. The biggest thing that sets us apart from our competitors is I am a naturopathic doctor which means that I am able to create herbal tea blends and medicines to help others who suffer from everyday skin and health issues. My herbal and botany knowledge also help me create soaps that are infused with herbs that I grow myself to provide additional benefits. I am most proud of how many of our customers have come to rely on our herbal teas to help with life issues. I never get tired of hearing a customer tell me or write a testimonial about how they had issues with high blood pressure or insomnia, or even acne or eczema and one of my products helped them. Pampered Soaps offers vegan handmade soaps, vegan candles, herbal teas, vegan scrubs and masks, we even have a line of CBD/hemp infused products. Our retail store located in the Helix Center in La Mesa will be opening in August 2021.

We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
Most people who have met me in person tell me I look like I am in my early 30’s. I am actually in my early 50’s and I always say the reason behind my youthful look is several things: I do not drink or smoke, I have been using my own herbal skincare products, including my skin firming moisturizer for decades, and I live a vegan nontoxic lifestyle.
