Meet Robert “Skip” George of La Jolla Sport and Spine

Today we’d like to introduce you to Robert “Skip” George.

Robert, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
My first practice was Mission Bay Chiropractic that opened in 1980. It was a traditional chiropractic practice that in 1995 I sold and decided to widen my career focusing on sports, rehabilitation and wellness coaching. In 2000, I started a new practice in La Jolla that is a fitness, rehab and wellness center that integrates chiropractic care, rehabilitation, sports performance/personal training and wellness coaching. I am a certified chiropractic sports physician/practitioner (CCSP), a certified strength and conditioning specialist (CSCS), and certified not only as a PRI (Postural Restoration Institute) practitioner, but a faculty member of PRI as well. In addition to my practice, I lecture nationally and internationally on integrating breathing, alignment and balance with rehabilitation and sports performance for the Postural Restoration Institute. My practice is a patient focused approach that provides treatment not only for painful conditions of the neck, spine and extremities, but training in movement, strength, endurance and nutrition.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
With any change or growth there is inevitable resistance, struggle and a little pain. Overcoming the status quo personally or professionally requires leaving some or many old notions behind that no longer work, or never really did, and learn that observations, questions and thinking about what is needed for patient and practitioner satisfaction sometimes means stepping out of a traditional way of thinking.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about La Jolla Sport and Spine – what should we know?
For years, patients have gone to chiropractors, osteopaths and even physical therapists for painful conditions of the neck, spine or other areas of their bodies that hurt. Chiropractors “adjust” the spine for re-alignment of vertebrae to help the body heal itself. That treatment approach is a sound way to approach health and wellness issues, but in my opinion, needs a 21st century technology that enlists the cooperation and involvement of the patient in their own health care goals. I am known as a “concierge” wellness chiropractor that uses the PRI (Postural Restoration Institute) approach to balancing and re-aligning the human body with specific techniques combined with breathing to restore optimum function. In addition, La Jolla Sport and Spine is the only Postural Restoration Center in Orange or San Diego County. La Jolla Sport and Spine offers a comprehensive wellness approach that combines rehabilitation and sport performance in a boutique training facility that includes people of all ages including children, high school, college and professional athletes as well as patients/clients in their 70’s and 80’s that want to move well and be vibrant! I also teach chiropractors, physical therapists, athletic trainers, medical doctors and dentists how to enhance breathing, movement, posture and position for their patient/clients. La Jolla Sport and Spine specializes in the restoration of posture and breathing for the treatment of painful conditions and athletic performance.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Caring, compassion and competence. In addition, focused attention to always learn and improve are keys to a satisfying outcome for patient and doctor.
