Today we’d like to introduce you to Tim and Mae Robertson.
Tim, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
After spending many years working for a big bank, we recognized that there was a real need for someone who could help many businesses obtain financing, particularly after they had gone to their bank and been declined.
We take a real interest in helping entrepreneurs as well as more established businesses from the first conversation all the way through to funding of their loans or working capital, and many have come back to us for a second or third time as their business grows.
As small business owners ourselves, we understand the challenges and rewards of being in business for yourself.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Of course not! Even though we had many years of experience in banking, we were new to the San Diego area and had to start over establishing ourselves with prospective referral sources and new clients.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Robertson Working Capital – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
We specialize in financing for small to mid-sized businesses.
We are brokers, and what makes us unique is that we have developed a network of lenders and funding sources that allows us to find the right source for each businesses unique requirements. Just as each business is unique, different lenders have their own unique appetites for different type of customers, and we help match the business owner with the right lender, who is often not a bank but can offer the same types of loans as a bank. Other funding sources can help with working capital to help a growing business manage their cash flows while waiting to get paid from their customers
Another unique aspect of what we do is that we work closely with bankers and other referral sources such as the Small Business Development Center to take a consultative approach with business owners who need a little extra help getting their loan request put together.
Another aspect of what we do that is kind of unique is that we typically do not add any additional expense or brokers fee on top of what the lenders charge. Most of our sources pay us a referral fee when a loan closes, so we do not have to add any extra charges to assist them in finding the right funding.
We are most proud of helping business owners who have been turned down by their bank, or who have gotten into an expensive loan that we can help them out of into something much better!
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
Our plans for the future are to continue to build relationships with our clients and referral partners, helping them grow and prosper.
We especially enjoy working on commercial real estate deals, having been in the real estate and mortgage end of banking for many years. Most business owners don’t realize how affordable commercial real estate is compared to renting, especially in expensive areas like San Diego.
