Meet Rod Watson of The Watson Group in La Jolla

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rod Watson.

Rod, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I started in Real Estate 12 years ago as an investor. I purchased my first house with my wife Laura and our 1st daughter back in 2005. I knew real estate was for me and I’ve been living my dream ever since. Making the decision to invest in real estate lead to me becoming an agent. From there I went on to sell over 100 Million dollars in real estate helping 100’s of families buy and sell real estate.

My passion for helping people reach their goals is what motivates me. I find great joy in helping people achieve the American Dream of home ownership and investing in real estate. Years of studying and putting the time in to perfect my craft is reason I’ve been able to have success. I love what I do!

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
No it has been far from smooth. I don’t think running a smooth business exist.

Don’t get me wrong we’ve had some great times but smooth and easy no lol. It’s easy to do transactions as an agent but building a business in this space has become harder especially when it comes to acquiring new clients.

I’ve had struggles with growing and reaching my goals when it came to breaking into the luxury real estate. It’s a more competitive field and there are more challenges you face with running a team and maintaining the pace to get and keep business coming in. There’s always a new devil at every level. So my attitude is just working and find solutions to the problems we are faced with. The challenges and hard times have made better and more focused. It might sound weird but I’m thankful for all the hard times.

Please tell us about The Watson Group.
My wife and I founded the company 14 yrs ago. As real estate agents we specialize in luxury sales and we also service very specific niche markets like sports & entertainment, which is my passion along with distressed properties. I played professional basketball and coached in college. During that time I was able build a lot of relationships with key people in that space. Over time we have become known as one of the top sports and entertainment agencies for athletes and entertainers. Aside from servicing the sports and entertainment niche, during the downturn we helped a lot of my athlete clients and friends buy distressed properties with the focus of helping them build long term wealth.

I am proud of all of our accomplishments it’s not easy operating in this space. It took a lot of setbacks and patients to get to this point and we’re still building. I believe what set me apart from other agents is we truly value relationships over transactions. We may not be the cheapest in town but we are the hardest working agents and provided the highest level of services that get’s results. Just go check out our Yelp reviews.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
Honestly, the only thing I would have done differently is started sooner.
