Today we’d like to introduce you to Ron Fineman.
Ron, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I started in real estate in 2003 in Los Angeles after selling software, computers, and services for over 15 years. I sold eight homes in my first year. I quickly became a top agent. I went on a few years later after several awards to start a team called the Fineman Suarez team with another agent. Our team became one of the top teams in Los Angeles.
In 2014 I sold my interest in Fineman Suarez to move to San Diego with my husband (of 20 years). We needed to assist our siblings in taking care of my dad and my husband’s dad and step-mom. Taking care of them locally in San Diego was much smarter than doing so from LA. However, starting over in real estate was no small task.
I did well and in total have sold over 400 properties worth about $370m. In 2018 I joined one of the premier luxury teams in La Jolla, the Pete Middleton “Pete Knows” real estate team.
I am one of the senior agents on the team and continue to sell luxury homes, apartment buildings, land, retail and other types of real estate. I even dabbled in development and built 6 homes from scratch between 2016-2019 and sold those.
In 2017, I earned my CIPS (Certified International Property Specialist) designation and have enjoyed participating in transactions in Portugal and am looking forward to more international transactions as combining real estate with international travel is one of my passions! I have continued to contribute where I can. I raised over $11,000 for the Leukemia and Lymphoma foundation coupled with an Olympic distance triathlon in 2006. I donated a portion of every transaction to charity and have also contributed to one of our local communities by serving on the Bird Rock Community Council as a board member for three years.
I have been married to Warren Moore 25 years. We love family, camping, and exotic international travel!
Has it been a smooth road?
Moving to San Diego and starting all over was not fast or easy. I had to earn every transaction like it was my first. Even though the San Diego and Los Angeles markets are very similar, it was difficult.
Perseverance, persistence and lots of networking and calls got me to where I am today. Tapping into family and friend’s connections assisted me in bringing in new clients.
My real estate investment endeavors were also a challenge. While I learned a lot, I was not prepared for the complexities of dishonest business partners.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Pete Knows Real Estate – EXP Realty story. Tell us more about the business.
My business is both Residential and Commercial Real estate. First-time buyers to luxury residential. First-time investor duplex purchases to 20 unit 1031 exchanges in the commercial world. Retail, land and land entitlements in the commercial world. Mentoring newer agents. And most recently, my interest in international real estate has me networking with agents around the world and involvement in my first international transaction in Portugal!
I work with buyers, sellers and investors
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
I see two big changes:
The market will scale back over the next few years as the country’s economy slows.
The brokerage landscape will continue to change. In the last downturn, many boutique brokerages closed their doors. This time around we may see an even bigger shift with larger brokerages also suffering with all of their debt and expensive offices with high rents.
That is why my team recently made the bold move to EXP Realty in October of 2019. We are the first luxury team in La Jolla to do so but not the last.
EXP is the first true Cloud brokerage! We are the Amazon of Real Estate! Where are Sears and Blockbuster today? They are gone… replaced by Amazon and Netflix!
EXP does not remove the agent from the equation which a lot of technology companies are trying to do. EXP removes the brick and mortar… the debt and moves it all into the cloud.
