Today we’d like to introduce you to Ruth Gordon.
Ruth, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I worked at the Spa in The Sporting Club, in the Aventine, for 20 years, up until it closed down, 2 years ago. There, I massaged celebrities, professional athletes, and met interesting clients from all over America, and, the world. I have a number of regular clients who I have been massaging for many years.
I opened my massage studio, in the village of La Jolla, 6 years ago. I built up a brand new clientele who live mostly in La Jolla. My practice has grown mostly by referrals.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Opening a brand new practice, with no clients, initially, seemed like a wonderful challenge for me. I loved the thought of having my own massage business. Owning your own business provides flexibility. It provided me the best way to give my clients excellent service. Through resourcefulness and determination, I managed to find a local clientele. In order to attract the right people, I made it by appointment only.
Please tell us about Mandolin Gardens Massage and Wellness.
I am as passionate, today, about giving high quality treatments, as I was when I first started out 27 years ago.
I customize each treatment.
Everyone is unique. I listen. I care.
After massaging for so many years, I am now able to hone in on my instincts.
I offer a comfortable, soothing environment.
The sound of running water comes from the water landscape outside my room.
I offer several modalities: Deep tissue. Sports massage. Lymphatic drainage. Pregnancy.
60 minutes. 90 minutes. 2 hours.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
My favorite memory from childhood was going with my father to the movies for the first time. We saw Sound of Music. Because my father was a country doctor, on call 24 hours a day, it was rare for him to spend quality time with me.
