Meet Samantha and Gregg Anderson of 41 Orange Marketing in Lemon Grove

Today we’d like to introduce you to Samantha and Gregg Anderson.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Samantha and Gregg. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Gregg and I met at San Diego State University in 2010. We had both just transferred in, Gregg being a Coast Guard veteran and me having spent some time pursuing musical theatre in New York. Gregg studied entrepreneurism and I studied journalism — we really had no idea that we’d be where we are today.

In 2012, Gregg began working on a startup out of the Zahn Innovation Center at SDSU — it was a version of LinkedIn for students. To subsidize the build of the platform, we began doing website builds on the side. After school, I went to work for Digitaria (now Mirum) and Gregg continued to work on the startup.

Unfortunately, we weren’t able to go to market fast enough and we ended up folding the startup. It was an amazing experience that taught both of us a lot. Right around the same time I was starting to look for a new adventure as well.

New Year’s Eve 2013, I was talking with one of my friends about what I want and it hit me: “I want to work for myself.”

That January, I quit my job and joined Gregg to take our side business to a full-time enterprise — which was a bit crazy since we were getting married that year! It was quite a year, that’s for sure.

At the time we were working out of our house, 4117 off of Orange Ave. in North Park, in a little house with a citrus tree. Thus, 41 Orange was born.

Today, 41 Orange is a team of 6 full-time marketers and some very talented contractors, creating inbound marketing funnels for B2B lead generation (and still doing websites, too). We’ve come a long way, and we have much further to go.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Our path, while smooth, has not been straight — which is extremely normal. Anyone who has had the experience of building something from the ground up will know that this journey comes with a lot of twists and turns.

When we first started out, Gregg was still healing for a very traumatic injury that took place in 2013. In fact, a third surgery had put him in a wheelchair right before our wedding that summer. He walked down the aisle on crutches and “danced” in his chair.

What that first year taught us though was that we can do anything we put our mind to. Persistence and motivation are far stronger than adversity; if you push through the roadblocks that life throws at you, you’ll end up far stronger, smarter and more resilient for it.

41 Orange specializes in inbound marketing and B2B lead generation for companies motivated to grow. We craft marketing funnels through the use of content, email marketing, social media and marketing automation to drive qualified traffic to a website and convert it into leads.

We are also a Silver HubSpot Agency Partner, though we have the ability to work with other automation software such as Pardot.

We have experience in a variety of industries, but we’ve developed a lot of knowledge and experience in real estate: residential, commercial, mortgage, hard-money lending, relocation and property management.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
41 Orange is going to be one of the largest agencies in San Diego in the next 5 years. We’re building our team and augmenting our strategy with smart tools and tactics proven to work. Marketing is always changing, so we’re keeping our eye on the “next big thing,” just as topic modeling and video marketing are right now.

Gregg and I have big plans for this business and for our amazing employees and clients. This is just the beginning.
