Meet Samantha Skelly of Hungry For Happiness in Encinitas

Today we’d like to introduce you to Samantha Skelly.

Samantha, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I was a personal trainer for 7 years, ironically at the same time, I was struggling with the relationship I had to food and my body. I was on over 50 diets in less than 4 years desperately trying to understand why I couldn’t eat like a normal person. It wasn’t until I understood how much my emotions were affected the journey did things change. In 2014 while in Bali I discovered breathwork which was the massive catalyst to understanding myself and clearing out emotionality that kept me trapped for years.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Absolutely not. Each day is a new challenge, I’ve just learned to change my relationship to challenges. When I first started out, I felt like each challenge was directly related to my ability to be a successful entrepreneur, then I realized it’s just part of it. Some days I feel like I can fly, other days I feel like I’ve been hit by a train. The biggest challenge was separating my emotionality from how well my business was doing.

Hungry For Happiness – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
The brand is called Hungry For Happiness. We have two wings of the business, we offer solutions for people who struggle with disordered eating and body image issues and we offer support for high achievers who struggle with anxiety. We specialize in breathwork, using a technique called the Pause Technique. We are most proud of what we stand for and how committed we are to our values. We hold our team and clients to a high standard and therefore we are able to do some deep work where everyone is taking emotional responsibility.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
It’s one thing. Happiness. I’ve chased money and accomplishments for years only to find that I was fundamentally unfulfilled. Success is a feeling, not a position. If I go to bed each night and my soul is content and expressed – I will forever be successful.
